Good morning, punters!

I originally started a thread when Donald Trump was appointed as US President, expecting a few fireworks and lively discussion. Instead, it turned into a full-blown explosion—an atom bomb of debate, with over 200 posts and 2,000 views in just five weeks, leading to some rather heated exchanges.

It certainly feels like Donald wants to rule the world. 🌍

I usually steer clear of politics, but after recent trips to the Department of Home Affairs, unexpected power cuts, and growing frustration with our judicial system, I can’t help but wonder—are civil servants actually trained to be unhelpful?

Compare that to any other service industry—whether it’s a shop, a garage, a pub, or a restaurant—you’re greeted with "How can I help you, sir?" Yet, with government services, it’s more like "How can I ruin your day and make life as difficult as possible?"


I just listened to Cyril on how to make SA great again after what had to be an embarrassing situation showing his overseas visitors the current infrastructure of SA 🤬

The simple solution would be to remove his overpaid, under qualified top brass and replace them with qualified business minded people. 

Anyway, let me take a deep breath, grab a tablet, and refocus on racing and sports.

as i see it we need to understand what trump is trying to do. every year the us govt reaches its deficit limit and the house has to pass last minute emergency approval of an increase in the deficit to meet govt spending. in the 40 years ive been in the markets this has been a huge red flag but no president has ever addressed it. one day is one day and clearly trump has decided enough is enough. clearly reducing the deficit by increasing taxes is not an option for him and in fairness the usa consumer is battling inflation and also experiencing a cost of living crisis so the only viable option is to cut spending - the obvious first areas being foreign aid ( charity begins at home) (btw karmer has decided to up defence spending at the cost of cutting foreign aid who knew labour would ?) - military spending ( ukraine now and what chance taiwan if china attack) and govt spending ( doge).
all makes perfect sense
obviously how he is going about it is extremely unfortunate - bull in a china shop is putting it mildly
my question is does the us as the biggest and most powerful economy and military on the planet have a moral obligation to be the worlds policeman and to give to the poorest of the poor ?
lets face it their military interventions going back to ww2 have been epic fails - from korea (still technically at war) to vietnam the gulf war afghanistan they have just ended up causing more trouble at massive expense, so is staying in ukraine and taiwan going to be any different ?
the charity issue peturbs me as the bible teaches us to give to teh poor and i think it is our christian duty to help the poorest.
