Meetings cancelled
2 months 1 week ago
April 2nd l and 6th Cape meetings called off due to yesterdays strike action
So trainers, owners and courses suffer yet jockeys can go and ride around the country
SA racing is dying a rapid death and all self inflicted .

How convenient, blame the jocks. We all know the preference is to have less meetings to save costs

I don't believe that this situation is solely because of the NHA, yesterdays events were escalated when the jockeys decided collectively or by majority to strike illegally. The idea that operators want less races does not make sense as both operators in South Africa have contractual obligations to stage a minimum amount of races for the sale of the picture rights.
I would guess that the Owners, Operators and Trainers are not confirming a race meeting until there is written legal commitment that a race meeting will not be abandoned for any other than safety reasons. I could be wrong but i have a feeling that none of the other share holders are willing to negotiate this point. I don't believe that any of the shareholders are going to agree that emotional outbursts should be the reason for industrial action.
SA racing needs change when it comes to the regulator and I could quote various examples, however, this is not the way to go about it. If there is favouritism at play, and I am not saying there isn't, I have to ask why Vennicker, Strydom and Munger haven't had as many fines? Could it be that they just are not transgressing the rules as often or are we watching a case of the wrongful persecution of Van Niekerk when he has done absolutely nothing wrong?

Current jockeys 63 . This includes injured, suspended or missing for other reasons.
Current Appies 16. Most with very little experience
Work Riders. Outside of Gauteng very slim pickings. KZN zero riders.
Best not to isolate the jockeys. Time for a new working contract between Jockeys and Authorities.
Rules on interference , Whip use need to be leveled up to international standards not the Hyde and go seek guideline approach.
Penalties need to be changed to local meetings, not days off.
