HOLLYWOODBETS DURBAN JULY LOG  JUNE 10

3 days 13 hours ago - 3 days 13 hours ago
#899326
Durban – The outcome of the Grade 3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial over 1800m at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday and the Grade 3 4Racing Jubilee Stakes over 1800m at Turffontein on Sunday resulted in their respective winners, Madison Valley and Immediate Edge, being promoted into the top twenty on the 2nd Hollywoodbets Durban July Log as issued by Race Coast earlier today. On My Honour who was an eye-catching third in the Cup Trial is another new introduction at 16, while the East Cape star My Best Shot, who reeled off his sixth consecutive victory at Fairview on Friday, finds himself at 17.

Sail The Seas, Cousin Casey, Fiery Pegasus, Spumante Dolce, Wild Intent and Pacaya all featured when the first log was published on 14 May, but were subsequently scratched, paving the way for others to make the cut. From the first to the second log there has been very little movement in the top half of the field, with Eight On Eighteen, Oriental Charm, See It Again and Royal Victory occupying the top four positions.

At the time of yesterday’s second declarations, 29 horses remained in contention for a berth in the final field for the Hollywoodbets Durban July on Saturday 5 July. The top twenty are listed below in order of preference, with the balance listed in alphabetical order. Final supplementary entries close on Tuesday 17 June after which the weights will be published by the National Horseracing Authority.   Final declarations fall due on Monday 23 June and the field of eighteen runners, with two reserves, will be revealed on Tuesday 24 June when the draw for barrier positions will also take place. The traditional “July” public gallops will take place at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Thursday 26 June, commencing at 07:00 and all are welcome to attend.

Still wondering whether 8 on 18 will take its place this year - lots of speculation saying that he will, while some say that he wont. Reminds me of a similar time when Snaith had Captains Ransom in the Mercury sprint as a doubtful starter all week. She ended up taking her place and winning with ease.

According to Turf Talk, 8 on 18 is still 50/50 to take part - also apparently the Log was available at 9:00 yesterday - hence the nomination of Underworld (was entered later) was not on the list; my question is where would we find this log at 9:00 ?

Warren Kennedy booked for Confederate

I think underworld a very good addition to the July field.

30 stand many no hopers

I found 15 that deserve a run.

I can't see Underworld making the field, and if so then will be 19 or 20 at best. As the horse has a merit rating of 106 or so. With missing out on the last chance races this weekend, won't find another chance to up merit rating before final fields in last week June.

It is unlikely that many of the horses on the log will withdraw now, as barring this weekend all prep races done.

Underworld is probably 24 on the log in my view, with no chance to increase before race.

Please hold onto your 100-1 on ON MY HONOUR. Will be ridden by Khumalo in the July and is a big runner.

His profile is in fact quite similar to Oriental Charm’s in that the latter carried 60kg in last year’s Cup Trial off a 118 merit rating and won it before going on to win the Hollywoodbets Durban July.An interesting formline is that Immediate Edge beat Wild Intent by a head over 2000m in the Listed WSB Hawwaam Stakes when receiving 3kg and On My Honour beat Wild Intent by seven lengths at level weights over 1800m on Saturday. That formline puts On My Honour way clear of Immediate Edge and yet the latter is a 7/1 shot for the Hollywoodbets Durban July with the sponsor, while On My Honour is a 40/1 chance.Immediate Edge impressed in the 4Racig Jubilee Stakes on Sunday at Turffontein Standside over 1800m but was carrying only 52kg against older horses off a 102 merit rating, while On My Honour was carrying 59kg off his 116 rating. In fact Immediate Edge was receiving 8kg from Atticus Finch and beat him by 2,80 lengths, whilst On My Honour received half-a-kg from Madison Valley and lost to him by 0,35 lengths. The reason that is significant is Madison Valley was at level weights to Atticus Finch in the Betway Summer Cup and was beaten only 2,35 lengths. So those formlines also put On My Honour ahead of Immediate Edge, although it could be said that Atticus Finch wss just having a peparation race on Sunday.Nevertheless, it does point to On My Honour being very good Hollywoodbets Durban July value. He was in number 15 spot on the second Hollywoodbets Durban July log and with only the Tote Deby left as a July qualifier he should make the final field. The second-placed horse in the Cup Trial, Underworld, was supplemented after the final July log was done, but although he did finish in front of On My Honour in the Cup Trial the latter met him on 3,5kg terms worse than weight for age and lost to him by just a short-head, so put in a significantly better performance.

I agree the Underworld is unlikely to make the final field and even if he does, his rating and form imo is not what is required to be competitive (although he did beat stable-mate Okavango in the 1900 giving him 4 kgs and would in the July be receiving 0,5 kgs) and imo he is unlikely to stay the 2200 on breeding.

I saw that and I think he can be competitive and certainly was worth a bet at 100/1 (and even at 50s currently as is being offered by WSB); although imo the 6-length beating of My Best Shot should not be taken at face value - firstly that was on Poly (and MBS imo is a better horse on Turf) and secondly I think MBS has improved a lot since that run; also the 7-length beating of Wild Intent is probably not a true reflection of WI's ability - still I got 19/1 (1st 5) when betting opened, so those are good odds

Pharyngitis - I see Nathan Kotzen has taken out three runners tomorrow with same ailment.

Is this something that spreads through the yard?

It's highly contagious but not life threatening.
