The only VALUE imho is when a horse wins, even if it is 8/10.

Hi Pirates
Am on tomorrow and yes it is a word that gets thrown around a little too loosely I suppose.
In my opinion value is backing a 5/1 shot at 7/1 - you will still only win 1 in 5 times but if you are getting the 7/1 consistently you will make money therefore the value.
Will highlight to Neil
On another note have posted a piece on the ODI SERIES BETTING www.sportingweb.co.za/sportingweb/view/s...?oid=12626&sn=Detail
I would be interested in others thoughts on this. Am I being too rough on the bookies?

I enjoyed Neil Andrews banging on about Bloomberg ' the authority' on rugby betting. Everybody knows that Garrick is the expert. I wonder if Bloomberg still gets his graft from Garrick??

tie result = no bet is best option IMHO when it comes to cricket and rugby. I'll have a bet on pretty much anything if there's good value about - that's just the way i punt.
It's like when Mike de Kock first starting sending out runners in Dubai - now that was value!! Shrewd SA punters cleaned up in first few years, now not so much value about on his runners due to his global reputation (but obviously still a strong stable).

Cats I can confirm that Betting World do not quote the tie and have not done so for some time. They bet 9/10 the pair with the half point.
Given that I preview sporting events every week (and search for the best prices) I find it interesting the trends that emerge.
I never for example tipped golf bets at Betting World as they bet 1/5 odds top 5 and odds were always better at say World of Sport or Pearl Betting.
The last 2 weeks 90% of my golf bets have been with BW and I have noticed general improvement. www.sportingweb.co.za/sportingweb/view/s...?oid=12657&sn=Detail
In fact with some healthy competition between bookmakers now is a very good time to be a sports punter in this country (unless of course you are looking for massive limits)

Fair enough, I am really looking forward to Super 14 and it will be interesting to see how the various bookmakers approach it.
Cheers

Pearl had Sharks at a standout 9/1 about 2 weeks ago, think the best around now is 7/1. 9/1 was impossible to resist.
There's also some value about some of the Aussie teams - i think 2 sides like the Reds and Brumbies will fair much better this year than recent times.
