Claims on First Timers
16 years 4 months ago
Can anyone offer me an explanation or educate me on the following question:-
In Kenilworth Race 1 on sunday, we have various claims on first timers but the one that bothers me is... R10 000.00 claim on Linesman from 7/1 to 9/2 and then we have Valdivar R10 000.00 claim FROM 7/1 to 7/2. Info obtained from the bookies site. Anyone with an answer or am I missing something.

I will give it a go, but unfortunately my knowledge of horseracing is still in novice.
Firstly its a 1000m sprint which probably favours one breeding over the other. I think Dynasty breeding favours longer distances.
Secondly it may be the trainer's form over this distance and the last few weeks as well as their strike rate with first timers.
Thirdly it may also be the jocks recent form and quality over this distance. (In this case felix and greg are both good).
And to wrap it up, it may be other factors such as word of mouth from trainers to certain punters and volumes of betting (small amounts, but big volume of betting) so far on the horse.

Maybe, but mathematically you should still arrive at the same result.
I wonder whether BIGT can shed some light.

I agree mathematically.
But gambling wise they always have an excuse.

E. When it comes to first timers (esp. 2yr olds) - the 'clockwatchers' KNOW who the 'live ones' are + if a Horse is very wel bred and known to throw early types, the odds of winning are greatly increased - hence 'money' on.

I think I have the answer which you have alluded to in your posting.
There might have been numerous smaller bets simultaneously and hence the price is adjusted further.

E.
In the UK every year when the 2yrs old are on the ground their is money to be made just by betting 'fancied' 2's.
Very rarely is the info wrong - sure that young they can run green or sweat up or just get into 'trouble' but believe me you can win an absolute fortune IF you're in th eknow mate - surffice to say I never am - lol!
All the best Jim.

Jim-
If that is the case,we could be on the right one tomorrow.
Incidently, you remember when I had joined ABC early last year I had said that I did not think that I would ever own a horse or "part of it". Your response was "never say never".
Well my filly will probably have its first run on or about the 8th March.

Her original name was duplicated by the NHRA.
Renamed her Passive Resistance. Ceasour filly full sister to Paradzi.
We will keep our fingers crossed.
