Heavy rain causes delay to New Zealand Derby


THE Telecom New Zealand Derby has been postponed for 24 hours following heavy rain and high winds.

The meeting will now be held in the early hours of Sunday morning. The course had been passed fit for racing on Saturday following a 6am inspection, despite 38mm of overnight rain.

However, the stewards decided to reverse their decision following the forecast of further rain and high winds throughout the day.

At least they still know what 'postpone' means...

Can only hope the New Zealand Stewards look after my funeral and not you lads in Natal, or I will never RIP.

Plisa to send some of that rain to Cape Town...soon to be known as Karoo Town... another sweltering day and almost certainly another fire on the mountain somewhere. yesterday on the way to Newlands the mountains were invisible...just smoke all over.
