Race to watch on saturday,Amour propre is a flying machine!

Robin Bastiman believes Borderlescott can turn the tables on his Newmarket conqueror Amour Propre in the Betfred.com Temple Stakes at Haydock Park on Saturday.

Last year's Nunthorpe Stakes hero was beaten just over two and a half lengths in third place behind Henry Candy's speedster in the Palace House Stakes earlier this month.

Although Amour Propre is 2lb better off, ground conditions are likely to be different and Bastiman reports Borderlescott to have thrived for his first run of the season.

"He's been OK since Newmarket and he's come on for it," the Wetherby trainer told the sponsors.

"Henry Candy will know how much his horse has improved, but Borderlescott needed that run and we'll see how we fare on different going. It should be good to soft and it was very fast ground at Newmarket. The conditions don't really bother Borderlescott but we'll see how Amour Propre fares with some cut.

"Borderlescott needs a few runs to reach his peak and is usually at his best around July and August.

"I wanted to give him two runs before the King's Stand Stakes (at Royal Ascot), his main target in the first half of the season.

"The key to keeping horses like him going is not to push them too hard, give them time and don't run them too much on firm ground to preserve their legs."

Betfred.com Temple Stakes, sponsors bet: 9-4 Amour Propre, 4-1 Borderlescott, 6-1 Equiano, Tax Free, 14-1 Spin Cycle, 20-1 Captain Gerrard, Dandy Man, Hogmaneigh, Look Busy, Masta Plasta, Total Gallery, 25-1 bar.

Jet Plane to prepare for Royal Ascot at Windsor

STAR South African sprinter J J The Jet Plane will make his British debut in the Listed Leisure Stakes at Windsor on June 1 as part of his preparation for a tilt at the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 20.

The Mike De Kock-trained five-year-old, winner of two Group 1 races in his native country, met defeat for the first time in his career on the dirt at Nad Al Sheba in February but returned to winning form in Dubai later in the month.

J J The Jet Plane arrived in Newmarket on May 7 and did a solo work over five furlongs of the Rowley Mile on Thursday morning under Ryan Moore.

Juan Nel, assistant to De Kock, said: "That will bring him on, he won't be 100 per cent but that's more reason for him to have his prep run at Windsor.

"He will have another gallop before his race and he is more likely to go for the Golden Jubilee than the King's Stand."

Takeover Target 'as good' as last year - Janiak

DESPITE his flop in Singapore at the weekend, Takeover Target is said to be "going as good" as he was 12 months ago, accoridng to trainer Joe Janiak.

The nine-year-old sprinter will board a plane for Britain on Saturday to settle down in time for his fourth appearance at Royal Ascot.

Janiak will give Takeover Target a two-race campaign in Britain, starting with the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on June 20.

Despite his disappointing run in Sunday's KrisFlyer Sprint in Singapore, when he was eighth to Hong Kong speedster Sacred Kingdom, Janiak remains optimistic for his stable star's next assignment.

"He just didn't want to stretch out on the firm track and they ran brilliant time," he said.

"He's going as good as last year,

"met defeat for the first time in his career on the dirt at Nad Al Sheba"

What an ambiguous and misleading statement.

Yes, it was the first time he had ever been beaten on dirt, but he had only run once on the sand before, on debut at the Vaal. However, he had been beaten 3 times in all before his Dubai defeat.

They probably meant that it was the first time he had been beaten over trips shorter than a mile.

Morning Alan, must say Windsor is a magic place, you must pop in and have a wee cup of tea at the Castle, before you go racing.
You can also discuss Ascot with them, see if you cant swing a lift in the carriage.

O'Brien - workout will have done Yeats good

YEATS worked over 1m4f after racing at the Curragh on Sunday to the satisfaction of his trainer Aidan O'Brien.

The eight-year-old triple Ascot Gold Cup winner followed his sole work companion Von Jawlensky and responded to a couple of cracks of the whip from Johnny Murtagh to overtake his five-years-younger stablemate and go clear towards the end of gallop.

O'Brien said: "He is very lazy, but that will have done him good. If all goes well with him then the Ascot Gold Cup will be his next race."

Yeats ran well below his best on heavy ground on his reappearance at Navan last month, when he finished sixth of eight in the Vintage Crop Stakes.
