Tonight we race..by Leon Setaro

Tonight we race!
The postponement of last Friday’s meeting takes place this evening at Greyville; the weather is clear, the track conditions are good – tonight we race!
With the scratching of best bet Nimley we have to look elsewhere for money making and it will be no easy task with tonight’s moderata-fest. Furthermore, rain is forecast to pour right through the weekend and threatens to wipe out the next two KZN meetings so tonight might be the last opportunity of the KZN race week to generate profit. Let’s stay Angus-Buckam-positive though because Friday evening we have the listed Michaelmas handicap as well as a Pinnacle stakes race which sees the return to the track of Tropical Empire, Thandolwami and Lion’s Blood, the latter two starting their race build up for the forthcoming Summer cup at Turffontein. Good stuff for the out season if we get to it.

Trainers’ comments
Race 1 and the form bet of the day - No.5 One Ticket Please at 6/10F looks hard to beat and surprising value at the price. Watch out though for No.12 Pageant Queen (6/1) who according to trainer Alyson Wright, should put in a much improved effort this time. There's been excuses for all her appearances to date and last run she choked up and will race with a cornell collar this time as a preventative measure.
In race 2 the favourite is unraced No.9 Commander Cat at 18/10; according to trainer Alyson Wright there’s been no money on from the stable but he’s a nice horse looking for further and a good run is expected. No.3 Bizley (7/2) is one of the primary contenders and according to trainer Pat Lunn he’s fit and well and should go close.
In race 3 trainer Paul Lafferty sends out 3yr old No.14 Palm of Peace (5/1) and he’s confident of a bold showing if not too green first time under the lights. He didn’t get a clear path last time but still managed to finish close up behind debut winner Orbison who is rated by the stable.
Mark Dixon’s only runner for the night is No.11 Godsmustbecrazy (10/1) up in the 3rd race; Mark reports that he’s been working exceptionally well and with soft ground would’ve been confident of a win.
Race 6 No.3 Kanevaro (pic taken yesterday) at 5/1 - primed to fire and shouldn't be further back than 2nd.
Race 6 No.5 Two tone is the favourite at 18/10 after winning his debut with consummate ease. This leggy son of Strike Smartly is rated by the stable, doing well at home and takes on a small, uninspiring field here for his first test out the maidens. Strongest competition is likely to come from No.3 Kanevaro who is super fit and trainer Dennis Drier is expecting a peak performance. Whether he’s good enough to beat the touted Two Tone is the money question but he does look to be the reliable factor in this race.

Where is the jockey' safety surely the beanie cant be considered safe while riding work.
I am shattered that we still allow riders to wear Beanies.
