Pirates I am a businessman who punts for fun . I don't need the money MATE . I punt when I have spare time which is almost non existent these days . I am the worst tipster and can't even tip my own horses . I leave that to my well paid trainer .

lex every industry where their is money involved will have its fair share of corruption but i can tell you one thing the industry is a lot cleaner now than it used to be and because the industry is so small and word gets around fast many of those thieves are pushed out the game..i am not blind and know several people in the industry in all avenues and the whole image of racing being hugely corrupt is way overblown

I lost R4 the first day I got to the track..turfontein...
been trying ever since to win that R4 back...down R20m and still trying..

In which avenue of the game Pirates ?

Jockeys - Far from it . They make more money punting or getting others to punt for them then stake cheques and booking fees.
Trainers - Maybe - debatable
Owners - Maybe - debatable
Phumelela - Yah right
Bookmakers - know any better jokes

Maybe a bit cleaner now then 15yrs ago but some dirt just don't go away mate !!!

I take it as a relatively fair game but also that any thing can happen.its a gamble.and guess what.i make a income every month with that philosophy even if they do cheat.whats my point?u seem intelegent enuff so use ur intellegence and stop lookin 4 excuses.my 2 cents.use it.dont use it

These debates amaze me...lets apply some logic instead of emotion.
We live in a country rife with crime and corruption.Racing leaves millions of rand lying around every day and is available to anyone who can manipulate it,WITHOUT fear of criminal charges.Is it reasonable then to believe that,whilst the crime gets dirtier,racing gets cleaner?
The corruption in the Licencing Depts.is common knowledge....is the answer to stop driving? ...of course not - keep putting pressure on the authorities to improve the situation,and racing is surely the same.
Are all races crook...of course not....are some races manipulated...of course yes.....we need the authorities to keep manipulation to the minimum!

The oldest joke in horse racing is that the best job would be that of a bookie in the jockeys' room.

Logic dictates that if a jockey truly had information that was bankable (as opposed to playable), he would tell nobody, bet himself and reap his rewards.

The reason jockeys and trainers have clients that bet for them is that they don't have enough confidence in their own information to bet for themselves with any degree of certainty.

So they get people to bet for them on the off chance they are right.
