At Beverly tonight just saw a race where the odds on shot (Mr. Hughie) and Jamie Spencer had a horrific spill.
I make a few observations thanks to the fantastic camera angles from the UK coverage.
1) It was the most idiotic ride by ANY jockey I have seen in a while, let alone one of Spencers stature. He had about 4 horse widths to play with going straight or right but he chose to follow the eventual winner and pulled his mount into the slipstream.....at this stage his mount was travellin better than anything else, despite losing 3 lengths at the start.....
Why not go straight???
2) The horse actually got up and deliberately swerved to miss Spencer on the groud! I thought the horse deserved a medal for "fancy footwork". Perhaps Mr. Hughie for the next Dancing with the Stars!
3) Never mind my comment about SPencer above, he must be one tough bugger. He got up and walked back to the paddocks. Never even got in the back of the ambulance.
Anyway I hope the horse is ok, it looks like Jamie will be ok with a few bruises tomorrow, but I did my R50 in cold blood as I believe even with losing the amount of ground at the start, Jamie was comfortably on the best horse and should have won by 10!!!!
This, my friends, is the game of racing!
