3 days to go to what?

I see Tellytrack is advertising '3 days to go'. Now I know that the first match is on Friday at 4pm. That's 4 days away.

What's happening on Thursday? Is the opening ceremony on Thursday or Friday?

Even the Fifa website has a clock counting down which shows 3 days 7 hours 30 minutes right now. That would make it midnight on Thursday.

Are the organisers seriously that desperate that they're promoting midnight on Thursday as the start of the World Cup?

Opening ceremony 14:00 on Friday, I believe - but yes according to the countdown the tournament starts at midnight on Thursday night, Friday morning.

Nope, no such luck. It seems that it is officially 2 days to go.

Neil Andrews just said, as part of the Betting World promo, that it's only 2 days to go as reported by the Citizen newspaper on TUESDAY morning.

That means that on Wednesday it will be 1 day to go, on Thursday it will be 0 days to go, and on Friday morning, BEFORE the WC starts, it will be.... -1 days to go?

Ridiculous.
