great fightback by the proteas,its a pity we lost steyn to an injury,but hopefully we can still bowl them out without too much of a lead for them and then bat well in our 2nd innings.

From now until lunch on the 4th day will be the best time to bat so no excuse not to score at least 350 in the 2nd innings

Cook now on 4 is going to score over 100, he is starting to look comfortable

very nice fightback from the proteas.now we just need to bat very well and post a nice total to give us a decent chance of winning this test,even with a bowler short.

Steyn is not only out of this match but the rest of the series as well. Thats the problem now as they only have three front line bowlers so Duminy will have to bowl in the second innings. Proteas need a lead of 350 to win this test.

350 seems about right to me.lets hope they can bat well enough to get such a lead.
any idea which bowler will replace steyn for the next match or two?

Morkel is not playing this Test after concerns over his match readiness following two months on the sidelines with a back injury. He has only played one first-class match since making his return but has also bowled in the warm-up matches on this tour. "Morne is progressing quite nicely since he injured his back. During the build up to this week he looked pretty good. It looks like he will be available for selection for the second Test," Moosajee said.

Should Morkel not be 100% ready, South Africa have a fifth specialist seamer in Kyle Abbott. Others who could come into contention are Hardus Viljoen, who debuted against England last summer and is currently second on the first-class competition wicket chart with 21 scalps at 23.04, or Marchant de Lange, who has not played a Test since 2012 and is fourth on the list. Chris Morris and Wayne Parnell are also both injured.
