Re: World Cup
1 year 8 months agoWithout a specialist flyhalf it was bound to come back n haunt us we can kiss this world cup good bye france will send us packing in the quarters doesnt matter which players we bring in we will struggle to beat them partisan crowd n probably best forwards n backs france have had in a long time du pont maybe out but they have able cover similar to ntamack being ruled out pre world cup the cover jalibert has stood up first class so with all that in mind realistically quarters is where is this world cup dream ending
I hope that the bookies share your views.
If Pollard is ready we will beat them - there's no way we will be dominated by the French pack

Re: World Cup
1 year 8 months agoA question for the clever lads
If Scotland win today and beat Ireland is there any chance they get to last 4 ?
Just asking for a friend
Depending on Ireland for if they see SA as a huge threat ( if they meet again it would be in the final) they can field a side without any of the players that played last night thus ensuring that SA go out. Doubt it though as the Irish have won 16/16 and won’t want to lose that record
They would then make the quarter finals. The last 4 would be a step far too far for Scotland
If Scotland win their remaining game with bonus points they get to 15.
South Africa win their last game with a bonus point they get to 15.
So South Africa will go through because of their head to head record with Scotland.
Ireland current have 14. If they lose by 7 or less or score 4 tries they can get to 15 even 16 points is possible. So they can get knocked out if they do not get a bonus point.
If all the 3 teams have the same points then it will come down to score difference.

Imo - it could have gone either way ..... lots of IF's and BUTs ..... think that our try should have been disallowed as the pass from Libbok to Kolbe drifted forward .....
But we need to improve 2 things - our finishing and being successful with most of our kicks at goal - don't think we can automatically assume that Pollard would have nailed the kicks - apart maybe from the last one that was pretty much in the center of the field - will be interesting to see the side for the quarters against the French - and on that note I see the French are trying to get the captain ready for that game - 3 weeks to go

So what are the scenarios now? Can the Scots win all their remaining games and knock South Africa out? What do they need to do?

What else happened in week three?
France may have lost their captain to injury.
Portugal came within a kick of a historic win. Gutted for the kicker who kicked wide at the end.
Wales are the first quarter-final qualifiers (arithmetically speaking).
The much smaller James Lowe lifted the man-mountain Eben Etzebeth clean into the Parisian sky before lugging him a few steps forward on his shoulder.
Despite what Jones said Australia may have to settle only for croissants.
Italy had to fight a ten-point half-time deficit against Uruguay.

Morning guys and a nice win for Scotland and look forward to the Irish game.
Everyone keeps telling me the odds are still against the Jocks getting through and Boks still massive chance.
The new best odds for Cup
SA 3/1
Ireland 7/2
France 4/1
NZ 9/2
England 13/1
Wales 25/1
Argentina and Fiji 45/1
Scotland 150/1
Plenty fun and games to come
Good Punting 👍

Shaping up to be a SA-NZ final...they are likely to avoid each other in the quarters...playing France and Ireland respectively and then they play pool C/D teams in the semi finals...
SA and NZ will win the set pieces against their quarter final opponents and therein lies their paths forward...
Pollard will come in and his kicking won't be as bad as the Libbok/de Klerk combo...weird they didn't go to Willemse who had a very good game...

At test level you have to have a reliable kicker.
You can play indifferently and win if you have reliable place kicker and you can lose after playing a good game if you haven't.Which is where SA find themselves at the moment.
Pollard,in the past has been proven at top level.Libbock has been proven other wise along with de Klerk.
My worry about Pollard is fragility.
Erasmus/Nienaber have known about these problems for some time and I am surprised that they haven't had a quiet word with óld man' Morne Steyn.
Not too unrealistic as he retired less than 6 months ago.

I think what we have learnt up to now is that the Northern Hemisphere teams have the edge - so I think more likely to have Ireland v France in the final - I think the NZ forwards (especially the front row) are not up to scratch - so I think the final will be France or the 'Boks v Ireland

NH are strong but also helped by Home Nation referees...and a distinct bias against Tier 2 teams...
Knock-out matches well worth looking forward to and any 2 of the top 4 pool A/B teams in the final will be well worth watching...
So much better to watch than soccer...just hope the referees and assistants and TMOs don't mess up the crucial decisions...
