Well its pouring in durban and it looks like it may go on for a few days, if the going is sticky then ilsanpietro is going to love it and is my confident selection in the gold cup.
I also like givemethegreenlight, if he breaks well then it will take a good horse to beat him!

Yes, the course will remain a worry with Dancewiththedevil, no matter how soft the going is. I like Castlethorpe and Bulsara in that race, but still.

NO GOLF COURSE PARKING FOR CANON GOLD CUP

Due to the heavy recent rains the Royal Durban Golf Course is waterlogged and is regrettably closed for parking for Saturday’s Canon Gold Cup meeting.

Gold Circle has however made arrangements with the Durban Metro Police for racegoers to park their cars on the traffic islands around Greyville Racecourse.

Courtesy mini buses branded with the Canon Gold Cup logo will be running shuttles around the course to ferry racegoers from their cars to the main Greyville entrance.

Refunds on parking tickets already purchased will be made on raceday at the general office near the parade ring.

For further information telephone 031-314 1672.

GOLD CIRCLE-PHUMELELA MEDIA RELEASE
SUBJECT: 115 mm of rain at Greyville
DATE: Wednesday 27 July 2011
RELEASED BY: Phumelela Gaming And Leisure Limited

The Canon Gold Cup race meeting at Greyville this Saturday may be swopped with Sunday’s Turffontein fixture following 115mm of rain at the Durban racecourse from 7am on Monday until 10am today (Wednesday).
The Greyville track is very wet after the deluge, but with good weather forecast from Thursday it is set to dry sufficiently to enable racing to take place on Saturday.
“As things stand we hope to be able to race on Saturday, which obviously will be first prize for everybody. But we need everybody to be aware that if the track does not dry as hoped, we will give it additional drying time by postponing the meeting to Sunday. In that case Phumelela has kindly agreed to bring Sunday’s Turffontein meeting forward to Saturday to fill the gap,” said Gold Circle Director of Racing Graeme Hawkins yesterday.
A decision on whether to swop the two meetings will be delayed until Friday lunchtime, when it should be possible to ascertain whether the track is drying fast enough for racing to go ahead on Saturday.
The Gold Cup meeting is the last major raceday of the 2010-11 racing season and the four Grade 1 contests on the card could have a major impact on championship honours for the season. For that obvious reason it’s essential that all possible steps be taken to hold the race meeting before the start of the new season on Monday 1 August.

Now they are thinking.....not whether it will work on Sunday or not, but at least informing punters what they are thinking in their glass towers. That's all anyone can ask for. Inform us of what MIGHT happen and we are happy!!!!
