1. A Delpech - July 2011 Igugu / Met 1998 Imperious Sue
2. B Faydherbe - July & Met 2008 Pocket Power
3. A Marcus - July 2007 Hunting Tower / Met 1993 Empress Club
4. G Schlechter - July 2006 Eyeofthetiger / Met 2011 Past Master
5. R Fradd - July 2003 Dynasty / Met 1996 La Fabulous
6. P Strydom - July 2001 Trademark / Met 2003 Angus
7. F Coetzee - July 1990 Illustrador / Met Jungle Warrior
8. M Sutherland - July 1989 Right Pregotive / Met 1989 Fearless Streaker

Thats 8 cant get number 9. Robbie Hill came mighty close to the grand slam of racing in South Africa winning the July Met & Summer Cup with the same horse El Picha but was denied in the Met by Badgers Coast in 2000

Mark Sutherland lost a July on an objection in 1994 on Surfing Home and Robbie Fradd was awarded the Race on Space Walk. Both are on the list however. The horse that laid the objection was Pas de Quoi who won the Met the same year with Garth Puller. So Puller unlucky as well but he did ride Bush Telegraph to victory in the July in 1987.

Dougie Whyte won the Met on London News in 1997 but was denied the July by London News in 1996 when he rode Sleek Machine.

I think Sleek Machine is the horse that helped me win my biggest payday.
Ran In one of the features on July Day , can not remember the year (around 1996 i think).
P6 paid R976 000 to 3 winning tickets. That I remember vividly.
Naresh can you verify that. I think was trained by Brown or Drier and ridden by Delpech.

I am guessing.

Yip David Payne trained owned by Len Salzman and Ratner and in those days most of the fillies they had in partnership raced in the blue and gold silks. Delpech definitely rode the winner that day.

As i said in my earlier post Sleek Machine ran 2nd in the july in 1996. Dougie Whyte was the jock and Herman Brown the trainer. Mrs Liley the owner. Dollar Fortune ran 3rd. Thats the same July Day when July Day won on July Day. It was the 1st day night July. Some horses that won after the July race itself were the favourites July Day, Budget Deficit, Pricey Slew. I think Robert Bloomberg made a fortune on that day !!!

Slight error on my part. Last one was Garth Puller. Date was wrong but won the Met on Alastor

The names of those you would expect to see but have not yet done it are,

Marwing Met on Horse Chestnut but no July.
Neisius very surprised not to have won the Met in his hometown and July on Flaming Rock.
Lloyd who has won more Met's than anyone I think and no July.
Basil Marcus Met on Model Man but no July.
Kevin Shea no Met's and July on Ipi Tombi and maybe another ?
Whyte Met on London News and no July in his hometown (he has missed plenty).
Mark Khan Met on Yard Arm but no July from memory he rode Yard Arm as an odds on shot and Faralmond was also once a weak July favourite

The reason this debate came up was that a mate was having a go at Schlechter and I replied that he has done what few other jockeys have managed to do and win both the Met and July. When we went into the history books it turned out that far more jocks have won it that I had thought.

I think a racing quiz would be an excellent addition to Tellytrack. Offer a decent prize and invite contestants to participate.
Magic and Pirates would be early favourites and a dark horse for me would be Cape Town trainer John Mcdonald. Having said that Jehan Malherbe and Craig Peters from the commetary side would prove unbeatable.

Come on Teletrack. Gareth, give it a mention. James Goodman would be an awesome quizz master.

If I could pick one guy I would love to see completing the double it would be Jeff Lloyd. Would rate him in the top 5 jocks in the last 25 years and he has never given up trying.

Did Barend Vorster win the Met in 2002 on Polo Classic? Pity he never raced in the country longer as I am sure he would have won a July.
