In JHB there are Racing Express posters with the latest headline on many many street lights everyday of the week, for the July and Met The Citizen always does a write up (in the newspaper as well as the racing express supplement) and for the July, Pierre Jourdan was on the front page with Julie Alexander.

SABC 3 broadcast the July as well as the Met & Supersport showed the Charity Mile they also have the a betting program as well as that racing program with JUlie on Supersport as well

Sansui went bananas advertising the Summer Cup along the highways as well as at OR Tambo.

So there is exposure

The owners don't owe us anything of the sort. This is a strange time of year to retire a filly in the southern hemisphere, but she's their horse and if they've decided time's up then that is entirely up to them. I'd love to see her race again, especially in the Computaform Sprint, but we don't own the horse and we have no right to demand that they keep on racing her just for our benefit.

Anyway, like Magi says, if Secretariat and Nijinsky came back from the dead and had a match race in SA, nobody outside of our little group of racing fans would even notice.

Well I can tell you the Daily News in KZN goes great lengths covering the July. It evens makes the editorial and most of the time its Front Page News.

if its true well done to the connections as to often greedy owners like to push their stars over the limit and they get smashed the list is long...she has nothing to prove in this country and probably a year to old to campaign overseas...they are doing WHATS BEST FOR THE HORSE and thats the only thing that counts...

Magiclips, you are quite right we dont own the horse but I think that I will speak for all of us and say that for our own selfish reasons (not necessarily only for betting purposes) we dont want champs retired young.

If Igugu goes overseas (which is why I especially went to Turf for the Ipi THombi to see her because maybe it was my last chance to) I will be pretty pissed off as well because I would like to see a local horse overtake Pocket Power in top local earnings which she is poised to do if she stays

I could go on and on but I just like to see the best of the best on the track as often as possible

Now that I would LOVE to see. 1000m at Longchamp on the first Sunday in October...very tasty. No disrespect, but if Tangerine Trees could win the Abbaye last year then I reckon she'd have a real shot in a similar class of field.

Pirates you make a very good point as well in terms of people racing a decent horse for too long to make more money

There has to be a balance

Is Rudra over the hill?

Fair enough, Brandhow, but the your use of the word "ridiculous" in your earlier posting was over the top, IMHO.

As for Rudra, the Suimmer Cup doesn't suggest he is over the hill, but he is a very hard horse to place. He is just shy of real top class, yet has the rating of a horse with more ability than he possesses, in my opinion. Plus, I don't think he likes the going to be too hard.
