I have always wondered how some horses manage to qualify for big races even when their form sucks.

I know it has to do with their MR's but just because Potala beat GTGL as a 2 yr old he will probably be an automatic entry for whatever they choose to run him in.

Not really fair, I think their should be more ''trial races'' for the majors to get the best fields possible with the best possible current form.

Also in some cases a horse is penalised for a win some years back by loading it with weight.

Current form - lets say over a 6 month period - is perhaps more important then what the horse achieved 2 or even three years back for example.

Does English Garden deserve to run in the Presidents Champion Challenge on Saturday based on his 12th, 12th and 6th in his last three runs? ... no.

But he came third in July so why not just throw him in for good measure, he might just come back to form in a Grade 1, thats how it looks to me.

Safwan who is also usually a disaster however is showing some signs of improvement with his 8th, 5th and then 3rd in his last three but even if he wasnt improving, his yellow royal blue chevron, collar, cuffs & cap would probably qualify him in any case.

and finally i think that MDK should be loaded with weight because his form is consistently good
