Geoff is far too accomplished a horseman not to bounce back , Flash Harry - I have no doubt that he will be back to his normal stats and results, sooner rather than later.

Johan takes the big step, having graduated from the "Woodruff Academy" - that alone should see him through the many challenges of building a successful Racing yard - He will be starting out, here at Vaal, which he knows so well.

If I remember correctly when Woodruff started his career as a trainer in the Cape, the first 3,4,5 or 6 runners I'm sure were all winners. Now the stats you show Flash is a far cry from those heady days.

i think its the fact that his "better" horses were cool in the old system and not so lekker undert the merit rating system.

A woodruff horse makes its debut and is 3 points(betting) shorter than it should be, it wins by 5 lengths beating a 60 rated horse but because of connections gets given a rating of 82, then is fubar in most handicaps so he ends up running it in conditions races where its 8 points inferior or in listed races etc.

The racing programme in SA is dominated by handicaps, therefore you need to be a good handicapper (trainer) and (actual NHRA) handicapper to get horses correctly placed/handicapped.

This is why certain trainers are now coming to the fore, they have CONSISTENT 74 rated horses that are able to run week in week out. Woodruff either has champions or incorrectly rated horses and he just cant compete.

in his last 50 runners he has contested roughly 19 handicaps

when woodruff was training in the cape he had the support of the jaffees, des scott and he had top horses like igreja, resfa and he had a top stable jock in m khan.when he took over tony millard stable and moved to jhb he still enjoyed support from big patrons.unfortunately some of his big patrons are no longer around and he has lost the services of m khan.it stands to reason that he is no longer the force he once was and it proves without the stock its difficult to be competitive against the big stables who hv the quality stock.

I don't think he had all the big owners support when he started with that unbeaten sequence, Terence was still training at the time.
Was Star Effort not his Guineas winning filly? Faralmond came much later.

it all comes down to stock..he just doesnt have the stock he had a few years ago when the muir's were big in his yard and y.khan was a big owner too..dont think it comes down to mark khan..woodruff has had anton and striker ride successfully for him and he still uses them today..

@easy horses arent handicapped on their connections

But it is a fact that some trainers can make average animals win. It is not ONLY the material but how it is worked.
