Sorry Engles, one last question when do you think you became a truely great big club,as you put it.
Was it when you won the treble or prior to that, was it when you became the 2nd British team to win the European Cup.
Do you regard United as a bigger club than Liverpool who dominated the 70s or Barcelona who are at the moment the best in Europe.
I think you need to take the blinkers off and embrace the competition that is the Premier League, how boring would it be if United won every year.
Sorry I'm going on a bit.
Who do you want to win on Sunday.

Dave I was born and bred "Surrey"... born... Epsom
My dad's family were all from Lancashire and he was a United fan and that is where it comes from. My earliest memories as a child are of United. I am also the only southern United fan I know who is also a Lancashire cricket club supporter. As I may have mentioned to you before there was a time I saw Chelsea enough to wonder if my allegiance was changing... then United came to Stamford Bridge and there was no doubting where my loyalties lay. You can't change what has been embedded in your heart. I was at The Dell the day we gained promotion to the First Division and that would have been this glory hunter's first ever United trophy.
I actually believe Dave that United became a big club primarily because of the Busby Babes and the Munich Air Disaster. I think the Babes generated a lot of interest in United and was the start of the "exciting" football that has been associated with United pretty much ever since. Then, when the tragedy struck, obviously I don't know but I suspect, there was a huge wave of sympathy generated and especially with so many dying being named as "Babes" it created the start of United as a truly world wide name, their success after that has only added to it all.
I think we are huge compared to anyone else on a global front other than perhaps Real Madrid. Yes Lpool were a great team (and club) in the 70s and 80s but that was one period of time. It has certainly put them on the map. Barcelona are a big club and were before this recent period of success, It is not all about winning, its the aura surrounding the name of that club. Juventus are another. Bayern Munich are also a big club but their name just doesn't seem to carry the same passion as United, Real or Juve... surely, you know what I mean?
Dave back in the late 90s, early 2000s I was crying out for competition and very much wanted a European League. it was the start of the decline in my interest in football. Winning had become too predictable and taken the edge away. I am all for competition, there are no blinkers needing to be removed from ME
You forget, I have mentioned many times the respect I have for Arsenal and Wenger over the last 25 years and who were United's chief rivals for much of that period? Our only other real challengers in that period have been and are money.
Why would you think I believe you only supported Chelsea since Abramovich arrived? You have certainly stated enough for me to know otherwise and I wouldn't have thought that anyway. Chelsea are all about money to me now Dave, it is hard for me to think about that club as solely a football club... there is simply now something stuck to the end of their name which screams money. As for my local team, I have probably seen them play at least 150 times, indeed I reported on them for the local papers for about 6 years.
Sunday... I really don't care but if I had to choose it would be Chelsea, I still feel some association with them. And I guess I also think City are far more dangerous in terms of the Premiership.

I read this post and experienced a strong sense of dejavu....
Mr A bought Shevchenko...fired Mourinho....brought in Ancelloti ( Shev's prev couch ).....
We all know how that ended......history sure have a knack for repeating itself where Chelski is concerened.

Engles,if Arsenal start spending big and say fork out 100million in January and win the title, will your respect for them and Arsenal change.
I also can't Beleive you have lost interest in the Premier League and want a European league,Italian football is tedious at the best of times,
The Germans you don't rate as big clubs and apart from the Spaniards the rest are average.
If Chelsea,Blackburn and Man City were not backed by owners who spend,Man United would have been more successful ,accumulating more wealth
and would have been able to sign the big players.I can't Beleive after the finish to last years title race that you don't find our league the
most exciting in Europe.
Surely the money and added competition will push Fergie and Man United on,I think Fergie said Chelsea had raised the bar when Mourinho was
in charge and you responded to the challenge.
Instead of harping on about the money, look at it as a boost to your own teams performances. Also as you have stated Real Madrid are a big, global
team.Have a little look and see how much money they have spent in the last few years,do you see euros at the end of their name?
If you only appreciate teams that spend nowt that's our choice.

Firstly Dave, I said... Dave back in the late 90s, early 2000s I was crying out for competition and very much wanted a European League.
Secondly, stop twisting everything I say lol ... I have not said anything about clubs spending money other than if you've got it, spend it.
I don't harp on about the money. I have also stated that you would be foolish to turn away such benefectors. I can't believe you continually miss the point even though I have stated it very clearly (lmao)... admit Chelsea have become a so-called big club and won trophies solely through a huge cash injection. Sh1ty do the same. It is the denial of these clubs and their supporters that this is the truth that annoys me.
I am not sure of your point regarding R Madrid. They have always spent big and recovered the money through the football club. Is that not so?
If Arsenal have an Arab billionairre come in and spend big and they win the title and say... sh1t that was lucky, don't think we'd have won the title without that money, I would respect that. If you win the league, you win the league, and I also respect that fact. I did not slate Sh1ty, Chelsea or anyone else for winning anything. Are you not reading my posts???

So it's ok if you spend big, providing the money is not from the owner.
That means you and RM would dominate the transfer market, with your global brand.
What about restricting transfers on clubs that are piled high with enormous debts.you are £360 million
in debt,it's a disaster waiting to happen.
Bring back Michael Knighton...

Don't worry Greg, you never know Abramovichs son might start supporting United.
Love to see what Engles would say if your owners actually started spending their OWN money..

Fark...no wonder I don't read the football posts...
Do you get this in the Readers Digest Abridged version?...
Always wondered about guys that hug and kiss...then realised 90 odd minutes of play and no score...
maybe we should kiss someone for breaking the deadlock...

Sparky also fired by QPR - apparently they rushed it through because Harry Redknapp has been seriously linked with a Ukraine vacancy. Harry apparently 1-33 to be next QPR manager!
