What's to like about Wagner:S
12 years 6 months ago
Was it an above average trainer with a mediocre horse or a mediocre trainer with an above average horse.....who knows....who the hell cares....but if we peel back the pedigree we can see.....well I know almost nothing about Joey or his Dad or Mom..... so I can't peel his pedigree....but Wagner alway appealed to me.....not as a G1 winner but an above average handicap scrapper......
I have always maintained that if you are going to bring in American Sires with Secretariat and other Bold Ruler influences like AP Indy and others .....you had better back them up with Bold Ruler rich(more BR the better) mares.....Storm Cat sons goes ever so well with multples of BR too....
Tiger Ridge being a half brother to A P Indy through blue hen dam Weekend Surprise by Secretariat best son of Bold Ruler.....with a RMG (sire a son of Mr P ) crossed with a dam that is from a BRxDamascus mating (goes so well with BR) and in the 6th generation on the dam side we find Cornish Prince another son of BR....apart from this ....the ped picture is perfect and with balance.....In Wagner BR can be found in his ped in 4th 5th 6th 7th generations.....and this is how I find above average horses to follow and throw into a PA a P6 swingers...... even on big race days.....not who trains them.... or rides them....nor how many races they won....or that funny double digit number in the 90's when it should be a tripple digit starting with 1.....
....and yes call me an ARM I don't care a continental....but I peeled this ped a very long time ago and have followed it ever since....

Always find your knowledge of breeding very interesting. I'm slowly trying to learn more and get my info from Formgrids. Is there other informative sites I can use to learn more? Dankie by voorbaat.

Thanks.....it's really a mish mash of all the little bits that I over the years have garnered from the internet.....I'd like to quote some of the stuff I've read but took no time to aborb who said what and why.....if it made sense to what I was finding in my own obsevations I adopted it
......saw quotes like ..... the best can be found from daughters of Discovery was quoted generations before Bold Ruler was born.....Sons of Colombo.....then British Empire was sent to Argentina and has a major inlfuence in their entire breeding population.....then there were those 4 breeding boffs that were brought out by Cape breeders Club around 2000 and played on the TT loop while I had insomnia and watched it nighly until I fell asleep in the wee hours of the morning.....reseached their theories..... forgot who they were but some of it stuck
....now cant include a badly put together horse in my play.....but worse....I cannot leave a better bred horse alone no matter how badly it runs.....:S

This mating is workable but not the best.......a good way to upgrade or step up and if you get a filly you always can again breed and build.....a total step up and complete make over would be ........Pathfork

Why Harry, I am aware breeding is long term and costly but we have a coverage from Ravishing and Miss D looking for home after racing or do you mean the mating combination or the long term cost?

Thanks Muti, looked at Pathfork but prefer CD for the following.
Mr Prospector line - Count du Bois (this is a very, very interesting mating
as bar from Mr P, this stallion brings in
2 lines of Northern Dancer, plus some very
interesting inbreeding, including to Bold Ruler and
to the half brothers Secretariat and Sir Gaylord.
Also, just as interesting, this mare is
distantly related to Count du Bois through her
dam line so progeny would be inbred 6x5 to No
Angel).
Next year a booking to Oratorio is on the cards.
