thanx pirates..i also thought that...but just to clear matters up....we say we have to accept the rules...but have the rules been tested in a case..all the time...we here that new test cases are emerging...do we just sit back and accept...or take them to task on a rule that is not consumer friendly?

it costs R8.50.as for the bookies,i think it would be fair if they just adjust the price and pay the punter because the mistake was not his.i doubt they will do that, but imo that would be the right thing to do.

@ winzip
thank, is that not a far greater scandal?
Surely a domestic workers wages have not surpassed the R5k a month mark.....so 16 loaves of bread a month = 3% of her/his wages.
Things are expensive in the UK but i find SA far more expensive. I dont think its as easy as applying the exchange rate. I loaf of bread at R8-50 seems expensive for what is surely still a main meal for many?

The major issue here is ,as Pirates says, are the rules that are totally one-sided...............basically if you OR the bookmaker makes a mistake, the punter must bear the brunt of rectification.
In spite of other opinions ,I am absolutely convinced that this and other bookmaker rules/activities breach CPA conditions.
I am not going to get into that debate again but the day this shit happens to ME I will test it in the real world.

Cheers Magi.
In the UK, I had a very similar circumstance and chose not to accept the bookies offer of settlement. I took it to the bookies "arbitrator" but they pretty much will only look at cases not covered by the TnCs. As every bookie I know of has a clause in their TnCs stating their terms if they make an "obvious error" you have no chance. In my opinion it is ethically wrong as RG says and worse still, rumour has it that occasionally bookies deliberately do this "obvious error" pricing to identify those who are simply taking advantage of early prices and who are then possibly laying bets off.
Mine was settled at SP and I would be amazed if Marshalls have not done this. I was also given compensation. You can go to court but you would have little chance of success imho.

Surely the can't nul and void the bet as if the horse lost what would they have done, probably taken your money. So they make a mistake and because of that they have a no risk bet. How do you know Marshall's would have nulifired the bet if the horse lost.
I had had an account with Marshall's for many years now and also had 1 or 2 run in's in the past but they generally sorted it out well.

If I understand correctly you took a double and 30 min after the 1st leg arrived, they voided your bet due to some rule in their “terms and conditions” (or whatever).
That is absolute hogwash.
It is a basic rule in gambling that you must stand a chance to win.
If the 1st leg had lost – you would have lost, no questions asked. But after it arrived you get your money back?
No gambling board or bookies ass. will rule in their favour.
