More help for Legends of the turf

Hi all. Looking for help again. Does anyone recall the SA Guineas of 1974 where Sledgehammer and Jamaica Rum were brought down? I see that Frantic Chief with M Du Preez up was also involved, but what exactly happened? Kenny Michel was in the race so perhaps he can recall? The race was won by Foreign Agent.

Hi Hibs,

I think that I have the Duffs volume for that year - will check and post it tomorrow if I have it.

In his next appearance - the South African Guineas - he started favourite once again. During the race Frantic Chief fell for no apparent reason. A three-horse pile-up resulted in which Sledgehammer came down, catapulting jockey Muis Roberts over his head. He had just recovered when Jamaican Music ran into him and knocked him down once more. Ultimately, the race was won by Mr W.G. Prestage's Foreign Agent, Sledgehammer's only other unplaced run whas in the 1974 Clairwood Winter Handicap which was won by Sabre, with Aegean second and Chief Scout third.

I'm getting confused with Jamaican Music...something with Tom Ratterly (not sure of the spelling...)...horse falling, but I think it may have been the July or a run-up to the July....

Tom Rattley fell off Jamaican Music in the 1974 July.
