Hibernia our bush racing was in July already. This horse was definitely not at our bush racing. Even at our 3 bush racing events we made sure a vet was present and in the 15 years we have raced in the bush I have never seen abuse like this. Horses injure themselves all the time, but how you treat the horse from there is what matters. We had a very cold spell last week with temperatures dropping to 0% and you leave a horse in distress in the open at night and your stable is a few metres from the camp. Then you call yourself an animal lover and you love all you horses.

Please tell your posters that horses with certain leg injuries are usually "safer" outside in an open space, than confined in a stable. If a horse with a leg injury lies down, and cannot get up again, it could panic, could roll, and could "cast itself", causing further, more painful, more complicated injuries. I'm not saying this is the case here, but confining an injured horse to a stable, it not always in the horses best interest!

Must be from someone with veterinary qualifications then? How the hell can they monitor the horse for improvement in a large paddock? With binoculars?

Good day, I had a few horses with the Vissers. The first time i visited their stables and was taken on a tour I was impressed. Mr Visser had his bed in the stables and I thought to myself, wow, a true animal lover.
When one of my horses had finshed their racing and no longer a financial prospect for them they shipped the horse back to me. But the manner in which they did had me beleive that this yard is not about horses but merely a money making stable.
They sent the horse off without informing me. The never phoned to tell me anything and never ever inquired about the welfare or the well being of the horse, so to come on this forum and pronounce you an animal lover is wrong. They never phoned to find out if the horse arrived safely!!!
I want to be the last person to kick a helpless man, and it is not my intention to add fuel to the fire, but the horse must come first. Especially if you have been crowned champion trainer and you go on air and brag about the good work the stable is doing.
But folks, dont worry about the SPCA, NHRA etc taking action, the action that needs to be taken immediately is that all owners need to remove the horses from this stable.
Show you true support for the horse

And on that premise, I'm guessing that St Nicholas Abbey would be better off in an "open space" in case he falls over.and starts to panic when he can't get up... hmmm.... Really? Curious to know which leg injuries require outdoor rest and which require box rest... please enlighten me.

so if it needs to eat or drink it should hobble along to find that? Thank the Lord Human Hospitals don't work that way too or many injured folk would die trying to get to food and water!!
