R 250,000 Maiden plate x 2 RACES = R 500,000 what are they smoking ?

Sat 02 Nov. at Big T is CHARITY MILE run for R 600,000. - a nice purse to run for.
Now, R 1 & R 2 are worth R 250,000 EACH............ these are MAIDEN RACES for God's sake. ( I'd also like to what they're smoking cause i'd like some as well )
a maiden race is a maiden race................. is a maiden race............... is a maiden race. Who thought this was a bloody good idea ?
To top it all the board or panel decided to go along with this as well. It's ludicrous.
Take R 2 - RECOURSE has had 37 runs - still a maiden - now he gets a crack at 250,000 !!!
Lord Rose from Durban - 14 runs still a maiden - also looking for a slice of this GIANT PIE.
For those that dont dnow there were 96 & 117 maidens nominated for these two races , not surprising.
well one of these mediocre horses only has to win one of these races, never to be seen again & the owner makes a tidy profit.
This R 500,000 would normally cover 6 x normal races which = 30 win & place stakes to jock, trainer, owner.
The mind boggles............. would love to know how they did the draw on 117 nominations.
I wish I could think of some brainstorming idea for my business !

I dont agree, hopefully this will be the start of sorting maidens out from other maidens.
they are not all the same.
The trainers in SA are not doff. Have you ever asked yourself the following question?
Q: What makes a person have a maiden juvenile run in a weaker centre before they attempt a stronger centre?
A: they must surely know they have a lower rated horse on their hands.
if those 2 things are correct then MOST trainers when they take in babies should be telling owners pretty soon to get rid of them to a weaker centre.
If this happens then maidens will be stronger upstream.

The Graham Beck Stakes GR3 is .........R200 000 as is the Starling Stakes now that is so idiotic!! Hell some of the best Gauteng three-year-olds are contesting those races and the scrap running in the Golden Loom get R150 000(getting ready for the Computaform and Merchants while those in Race one and two?.) I live in Benoni (Charlene's home town) and we love her dearly, but really to spend R500 000 on two races named after Charlene when you have races in honor of major contributors to racing in Beck and Goofy is embarrassing .

I am baffled by this - I agree with Mr H's second post - maiden races at R 250k and a listed race R 150 K ??? Where is the logic?

The idea behind it not bad, but can't understand why maiden races were selected as the target:
Phumelela’s Sales Executive, Clyde Basel says HSH has a long association with horse racing and along with the Racing Association, also announced the HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco Starling Stakes will be featured once again on the racing itinerary and in addition, the programme will include, the HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco Maiden Mile and the HSH Princess Charlene of Monaco Maiden Sprint. The two maiden races that have been programmed are specifically for horses that have not won a race in their racing career. The princess’s generosity will enable lesser performing race horses to be acknowledged for their efforts. The nomination fee upon entry for these two races and the proceeds will be split equally between two charities, namely, the Highveld Horse Care Unit and the National Thoroughbred Trust
Also the 'qualifying' runners were drawn live on TV - and I would imagine the draws would have been done as per normal

I would like to put on record that Sonny Bill will not turn out to be a "lesser performing race horse" Amazing how many of the lesser light come from serious stables and have yet to make their debuts - Why did they not restrict it to Maiden 4 years and older if they wanted to reward mediocrity!! Nonsense - Why did they not just give those races Gr 3 status while they were being so generous!!!

I wonder how Charlene would have felt if she was swimming in a Grand Prix event and her race was worth less that the local primary school's under 13 final? Some things you can spin away but some will leave you paddling in the deep end !!
