Jockeys are allowed to own and ride their own horses, just not allowed ride another horse in the same race.

the real question to investigate is how many jockeys own "under the lap"???????
..... i been offered a horse before to partowned by the "legal" owner and with a certain jockey as silent partner.
the horse went to pe from capetown and if i remember correct the "silent partner" only rode it once/twice...

Would be interesting to know how many,if any, jockeys are silent partners in horses and ride either the fav.or the well backed outsider that wins the race.

Wrong or right it happens more often than one would think.....even owners with colours have under the lap share in other horses.....and the reasons are plenty....mainly ego's where one partner cant stand another persona yet he wants in on the horse....goes to another partner and takes an unofficial share in his chop....or a guy gets roped into a share because he is owed something by a trainer/partner this could be a short term arrangement until a guy has been settled....not having an official partnership also means a quick escape....horse no good hand back your share without dissolving the partnership.....big risks....horse a star you get paid back your initial investment and the official partners get big tom and the glory.....your application colours is late because you think horse will run in the next racing season so you never renewed/applied.....trainer says horse is running in 2weeks...... horse runs but not in your name.....:

Happy Forever belongs to Andy Fortune and Gregg Cheyne's wife has owned a few..but cant for the life of me imagine why one would want to give their own horse a "miss" ...what is even more baffling is how one can even arrive at this conspiracy theory... fantasy and apt nom de plume.

Okay the jockey did not own the horse but he did back another runner in the race. So it could happen.
