Re: That has to be a 3 month ban

Have spent a bit time reading this emotional thread after a long day.
I would start by saying that I personally think the world of Striker and I gather "he fucked up" have not seen the race and I am sure the relevant authorities will hand out the necessary punishment if found guilty.
One thing I do object to is the generalisations of ABC posters.
We have a platform here for everyone to voice an opinion from the 10 rand punter in the rooms, trainers and major owners and when you post on the site you become part of the ABC posters.
We do not have a secret club where "we" gather together to crucify someone, in fact I personally probably know about 10 %? Of the visitors that make comments via this site and I again thank you all for your valuable contributions.

Does anyone have a link to a replay of the race?
Haven't seen it so can't make a comment on the ride except for the fact that the rules state you ride to the line.
How ironic that he got nabbed on the line by a jockey who has received several warnings and/or suspensions for doing the same thing and who still, at times, seems to stop persevering a stride or two too soon

A classic case of 'smutsing' (is that even a word?) showing off. What makes matters worse, is that he had tipped his horse to beat Fortune earlier in the day and so when he thought he had won he posed for the camera. In an attempt to really make the point. Or so it appeared to me anyway. A rookie mistake from a legend. Eish Striker...
He should be sanctioned unfortunately and I am sure he will accept his punishment with good grace.
I miss the P6 there as I took a chance and bankered him after his interview before the second race. So I am licking wounds all day today. Would have won an overseas trip...lol. Now I cant even get out my driveway.
Nevermind Pierre Strydom you are much loved and u made a mistake...God knows how easy it is to err. For to err is human (some clever oak said that sometime).
Oh I had to mention certain posters on this forum are clearly not human....

Couldn't help but notice that there was a horse in the race called Uposeupay....ironic! A precursor to what was to come.

JOCKEY Anton Marcus has been fined R50 000 of which R20 000 is suspended for a year providing he is not found guilty of such a contravention in that period for riding Gold On Gold in an incompetent and unprofessional manner by relaxing for one stride shortly before the finishing post in Race 5 at Turffontein on 27 December.
This was very similar and I would think Pierre will get a similar fine. Both top jockeys who both really just made an error of judgment as we all do.

Exactly!?!?
In this instance there is no doubt whatsoever that Striker's mount would have won if ridden out.Hard to tell exactly without a slow motion, but it looks like about 7/8 strides out from the winning post that he stops riding.
Far worse than Bling's supposed transgression.

The normal penalty for losing a win is 6months. The minor places is shorter.Strydom is a top jockey and i am 100% certain that it was just a judgement error. But the rule is to ride a horse out to the line and thats all what anyone wants. I have a friend who had 12500/5000 on strydom and is guttered.I have always believed that big penaltys must be handed out in instances of showmanship gone wrong.

The ultimate responsibility is Strikers ,but I still think the mistake was believing the commentary which was screaming that there was no danger and it was "race over"..................lol
Over 30 years ago I backed a horse at Greyville, beaten under similar circumstances, and the jock admitted afterwards that he was fooled by the commentary!

The man made a mistake and (almost) everyone is calling for his head
sure he cost people money in this instance but how many times in the past through his sheer brilliance have would be losers got up to win? imo if they give him a 6 month suspension it will not only be punishing him with a severity that does not fit the offence but all punters, owners and trainers who rely on his unequaled talent to get the results will also be inconvenienced an important point worth considering is that as far as I can recall Striker has never had this happen to him before in his many years in the saddle , so a fitting punishment I believe would be to impose a severe suspended sentence and let the man continue to do what he does best, ride the opposition to sleep...

Give everything but up!
