These are the rules. If they did anything else, they would be clueless. This is exactly the same as winning the toss and deciding which way to play just as the wind direction has changed. You always play advantage. How can you be ridiculed, or worse like here, for trying your best?

Smart move in my opinion. why murder the horse to win the July with 60 on his back, a feat rarely achieved and run the risk of damaging the horses confidence? Having 60 on his back and horses like BA, M and bela bela at 53 and 52kg respectively - I think tarry knew it would be really really tough to win the July. Love the horse and look forward to see him winning the Champions Cup.

This all boils down to the well-being of the horse.

As punters we love to moan about certain things that are or seem to be unfair.

Bob is correct, Tarry did state many a time that the Eagle is a doubt for the July. Can't crucify him...

I feel there will be a few surprise scratching now though.

A few big dogs might wave the white flag and aim for the Cape Season.

The writing was on the wall for sometime now that legal eagle will not run in the July, those that chose to ignore that fact are now unhappy. Who said that horse racing was fair , we all know that it's not. Why is the focus only about the weight ... is it not true that the draws , the well being of the horses , the jockey , whether the horse can see out the 2200 metres and the most important the pace of the race will determine the winner of the race....sorry I forgot to mention , also the stewards can determine the winner even if the horse lost. The weight will play a minor role in the outcome of the race, we all know that.

I heard Justin Snaith on a TT insert this morning (obviously recorder before news of Legal Eagle's scratching came out); said that BB would be very competitive off 52 kgs if Legal Eagle runs; but that there's 'no good reason' (or words to that effect) to run BB carrying 54.5 - giving weight to Black Arthur - so will probably be taken out :unsure:

in what planet is bela going to give black Arthur weight?i think snaith got it wrong by not running black arther in the daily news as it seems he thought with or without legal in the july black Arthur would carry 53..it seems 2 old time journalists got it completely wrong as well reading there write ups..im not surprized at that though
