Always remember Kenilworth as stuck up. Had to wear a tie and jacket in the members. Could not go upstairs with a certain badge could not talk too loud had to clap quietly when a horse that you backed won.

That is surely the most interesting point ?

It's been agreed upon, except the Kenilworth board doesn't know about it!

So lets think about this - if you have 200-300 people at a Cape midweek meeting and you charge them an entrance fee of R30 you make 6k wow!!! Now I bet many of those people only have R100 to spend as they are probably not employed as they are able to race midweek - so they stay in the totes or play some other type of bet... When I race Vaal which is similar to Cape midweek there are so few public punters you could almost fit them all in a single mini van .... most people there are Jocks trainers grooms and a small group of owners ... so you have bought a club that used to be packed now it's empty ... so you decide to try to make it an aspirational venue ..,. forgetting that those few day trippers you entice are NOT addicts .... and you drive your "addicts" away by making Racing more exclusive and less inclusive...Brilliant strategy - I really wish drug dealers would try this approach to their product as addiction levels will drop without Police intervention!

you are right but have you thought it this way and that is maybe they are trying to get rid of the addicts on a Wednesday afternoon by charging so that the ladies who do lunch can have a change of venue without having any of the riff raff within eye sight and ear shot. I mean who wants to attend a race meeting and their are other human beings hanging around who have not been as fortunate in life as they have. Maybe they are charging now so that they can subsidise next years prawn meeting, oh no they wont, or maybe even purchase leather seats for the toffs with their own personal fans when it gets a bit stuffy in the rooms that over look the riff raff. If they come out with "its only 30 rands" then my answer would be "well if its only 30 rands then why bother to charge"

Let me put it another way - In the past the VIPs had a crowd to flaunt their station in life... I remember in the 80's top owners would be praised and glorified by the mob after a win as they walked to the parade ring ... at this rate the upper echelon will have nobody to look down upon

Love that as an owner who does not belong to the RA - must pay to come in and then use the side entrance to watch " my " horse run. Just because I refuse to become a member of the RA . That sounds about right

Lovely stuff . "Aspirational" that's for sure. A power unto themselves.

So that's fine I will go to the back - get into a lift and go to many Private Boxes to watch the race. - Shirbit must not forget to bring entrance fee money.

Whoopie - Shame the RA and P. must really battling to get support.

I was once told in no uncertain terms that "WC Racing" will never dance to a man in a Red Jacket . Ja right I can here the music playing in the back ground and the beat is off.

......the way I see it is that it is not only about keeping the riff-raff away from the course....it would seem that it is a ploy to give the RA some credence....planning this move smacks of Larry and co having a go at the owners that wont support the RA....testing it in the Cape to see if they get increased memberships.....and then targeting the membership drive up here.....OTA you did good by posting here.....as it blows the lid right off the pot.....and now with this in the open....it will stymie their grand little plot.... :S

There are some serious warning signs as to who controls racing down here and in my opinion Kenilworth Racing is run by Phumelela. How du Plessis can make the statement that he does without it being factual tells me who calls the shots. Also how can it be that a major player like Peterd is unaware of what is going on?

If this has been approved by P. then you better believe JHB and PE are not far behind.

I wonder what they are going to do with the grooms next , Lead your horse out then go to the Back , all other grooms must stay in their rooms until its their turn, then the elite will call or Summons you.

Go to the Vaal - Turfontein on a mid week or Fairview , there are only grooms.

Tellytrack put the TV microphone right there, so it sounds like there is something going on , mean well its the grooms and their families most of the time cheering their stable on .

Same as yesterday if you looked at the stands there was no body on course .

Was that because no body in interested or did they stop the whole of Rosettenville Fan Club bringing their children to the races for a fun day at a cost of R30.

With the Pirates Vs Chiefs Game yesterday - They put up the prices for the match.
The stadium was empty why Because R30 is R30. Everyone complained and watched the game on TV .

The public don't want your betting voucher that doesn't buy my family a meal.

We might as well go to Wemmer pan where the Park is free and we are not seen as rent a crowed for the TV.

Of course big P runs the show in the Cape.....if they started this move up here the anti-RA lobby could take them head on....you guys in the Cape are the softer target........but again thanks for making this public..... ;)

I pray everyday that WC Racing can stand on their own. Unfortunately not happening , their Balance sheet is getting stronger , but the obstacles out way - their wants, will and needs .

P and the RA are going to eventually put them into a position that they will have no say . They are behind budget have loans to repay its just a matter of time. Sad .

"Mr Moodley said we need to bolster the Met field and he is working with Mr Basel in this regard.". Now that is what I find interesting.

Will say again that Racing SA is dead. Will be the Kings and queens racing against each other. Stakes dont matter just ego.

Summerhill if going down just another nail in the coffin of SA racing. Rest of KZN breeders where to from here.

phumelela executives and management live in a place called LALALAND time they come back to earth.
