Kenilworth Racing set to charge entrance fees

I am told that the racing committee who are responsible for Western Cape racing have taken the bold decision of introducing entrance fees to the tracks on race days. Now back in the day when I attended meetings at the 4 tracks up in Jo'burg this was standard and you paid to enter the Vaal on a freezing Wednesday in the middle of winter. If my memory is correct, there was a standard entrance fee regardless of the day - feature race days and vaal Wednesdays were the same price. I stand to be corrected. The difference between paying an entrance fee in those days and today is racing was the only gambling game in town and even Vaal Wednesdays attracted crowds in the thousands while a Saturday "normal" meeting would have 15 to 20 thousand as a matter of course ( excuse the pun ).

So anyone with myopia will see that Western Cape out of season public attendance run into the 10's and 100's on a normal day. I would bet that there are regularly less than a 100 members of the public ( open stands ) on any given race day. There is no attraction. What idiots would think that charging money for entrance would improve the situation? The people on this committee have to be complete idiots or so far removed from reality that you wonder why they are on the committee in the first place.

Maybe they want to chase the remaining few away so the elite alone can be attracted?
Does'nt make sense

The amount they could receive on most race days would not be enough to pay for gate attendants - not clever

the pics I saw were dismal ... maybe rooms were full but downstairs looked empty ...I doubt the entrance fee mattered more the past experience from last year's disaster.

I don't know who told you this. There is no entry charge except on special days.

and for those days we should support it as long as they give a nominal betting voucher to entice day trippers ..

Peter a mate of mine told me it has been agreed upon by the racing committee, I will get some further info for you. Apparently he has seen this communicated in writing.

I do not buy expensive bottled water to fan my ego .... It reminds me of the businessman who when he loses customers in droves decides the best thing to do is to increase his prices instead of dropping them to entice new patrons...

"NHA badge holders are only permitted parade ring entrance but would be required to pay to come onto the racecourse."

Love that as an owner who does not belong to the RA - must pay to come in and then use the side entrance to watch " my " horse run. Just because I refuse to become a member of the RA . That sounds about right

Lovely stuff . "Aspirational" that's for sure. A power unto themselves.

So that's fine I will go to the back - get into a lift and go to many Private Boxes to watch the race. - Shirbit must not forget to bring entrance fee money.

Whoopie - Shame the RA and P. must really battling to get support.

I was once told in no uncertain terms that "WC Racing" will never dance to a man in a Red Jacket . Ja right I can here the music playing in the back ground and the beat is off.
