Bob the relevant portion of the international broadcasting revenue does go into GC stakes pot I'm sure and thats probably why the stakes have been affected recently with our racing in shutdown. Maybe the hawk can comment.

IMO - the powers that be are going at this the wrong way - yes people has to buy food, even though the risks of contracting are far higher at a supermarket than at a golf course or a race track (given proper 'social distancing' is practiced) - so the 'elite level' of the activity should have nothing to do with whether it is allowed to happen or not .... surely one should rather take into account the 'risk of contamination' of staging an event - so yes bars. restaurants, etc pose a high risk, but from a selfish point of view, I can't see the logic of not having deliveries or pick-up of any item aloud - or why is the guy allowed to come and fix my roof - but he can't cut my grass ....?

I'm afraid I'm one of those who think this has been overkill - last night the president talked about 'saving 'tens of thousands of lives' ..... even at a mortality rate of 5%, for 10,000 people to die (and how may usually dies of TB in a 'normal' year - I believe that figure stands at 70,000 - but I may be wrong), that would mean 200,000 people infected ..... the ghost of our Minister of Health during the Mbeki reign still walks tall among the cadres ....

... And who thought up these 5 levels mostly overlapping each other ?

But have to admit the financial support is an admiral goal - should it reach the people it is intended for ....

Frodo, I agree. These sort of restrictions can work in first world countries. Not here.

I saw a tv report of desperate people queing for food in the USA. Most of them in their 4x4 pickups.

Majority of South Africans / Africans eat daily, what they earn daily. Reality.

So say we have a meeting at Kimberley

10 races at R30k

So the pools that day need to be close to R3m to pay the stakes? (12% pool goes to stakes)

Please correct me if i`m wrong, for Stakes at the BigT to return to 80k per race ( 800 k for 10 races ) to break even (stakes only) the pools would have to be over R7m?

So how do we race without TV deals etc?

and with the majority of bookmakers shops unlikely to open as well as tote outlets in SA unlikely to be rammed the revenue from the take and from selling pictures will be hit hard.

Yesterday Rugby SA advised its players to search for work abroad as their local salaries would be cut.

So if Rugby is in crisis and can see the bleak future ( empty stadiums) then how come we punting R13m on a short term fix.

This is not even about how pathetic Phumelela are. This is global meltdown of finances and how what ever money people have left in their pockets is going to be LEISURE spend post CV19?

The numbers just don't add up.

Now back to Phumelela HAD they done a proper deal with the bookmakers and offered them the 8% or even 10% and cancelled the OPEN bet.....YES SURE more money would be missing now BUT when we restarted at least ALL the open bet money would be coming into racing.

That won't be the case, the totes will be empty or with little footfall and everyone punting from home will be betting into the open bet.

Just shows you that piss for decisions constantly made have long term effects.

Morning Joao

Well done one your efforts to this stage.
If not mistaken the RA appears in good hands?

I did reply on one of your earlier posts how I thought the punting model should be for SA

1) national exchange horses only.
2) tote for exotics horses only
3) sports betting and numbers etc.

I have more details

Wish you all the best with your endeavours.

Ok easy thanks for clarification.

I think there maybe just too much information out there and will admit I was a bit confused.

Maybe if the "secret saviours of racing" were a bit more transparent it would help explain the plan for racing.

I read the article by Paulo Do Carmo ( whom I don't know).
However was extremely impressed and actually thought he was a member of the RA board.
Hence the reason i felt it looked as if we were moving in the right direction.

Watch this space ......

I for one would like to see Paulo and others like him getting more directly involved in racing. A gentleman with a sound business acumen, a passion for racing and a love for the animal.

After checking on Minister Zuma post the presser, she had fallen on her head earlier and was unintentionally slurring her words.

She has a pain pill and is now fully recovered
