Seem to think the winner went off at huge odds.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

You win some you lose some Bob.
Many years ago I was at Greyville and there was a meeting in Jhb the same day.
I took a P6 in Jhb and bankered Striker on a horse called Russian Feather which he rode for Azzie, an inform combo at that time.
It was the last leg and the P6 was paying R 27,000- full unit no fraction those days.
No live pictures too and waiting for the final 300Mt.
Commentator says here comes Russian Feather ,the filly had a turn of foot. It was race over and money in the bag when all of a sudden Dougie Whyte flew up on a N van Tonder trained horse and nailed Striker and the Crabbia owned Russian Feather.
No celebrations that night!!

@ Dave, why i recall the winner jumping at massive odds, is because my brother-in-law backed it and we all gave him that "what are you smoking" look.
@ Mikesack, i was with a ABC poster on course that day, he stood to catch the P6 for a full unit, and ended up with the second to sixth finishers in the race. I'll ask him to elaborate if he wishes too.

What made this the ride of the decade?
The front horse wad stopping to nothing so the amount of ground made up is exaggerated.
Strydom did exactly what he was supposed to. Ride the horse to the line.
If the other one held on, everyone would have said Strydom left it too late lol.
Still, one of my favorite jocks ever!

These were the days when Piere still "struck" from the tail end of the field. I remember the politics more than the race itself because Michael Azzie had just fired Piere as his stable jockey. Overdog was short I remember 7/10 and had tremendous pace out the gate, and this was a great asset to have over the lightning quick Germiston 1000. Well 200 out and about 3 lengths clear, it looked like the "dog" would win easy. Then his stride shortened and initially it looked like Sounds of Light was the only danger in the final 100. Striker struck from nowhere and it must have been particularly sweet for him to do My Kazzie. If looks could kill Striker would be 6 feet under!

Definitely one of the greatest timed finishes by Striker....
I remember this race clearly as I was still working at Wits Tattersalls in loveday street...
And just to add spice to an unbelievable win...Striker was jocked off the favorite Overdog ( dont recall the exact reason)
I've watched this race several times and still cannot believe Striker got Tudor Rullah from that hopeless position...
