Memories

This was on Facebook this morning and brought back happy memories of the famous match race.
I was at the track that day with Hans and Louis Eerenstien and Roy Groendyk.
Not sure if the other owner Alec Passmore was there?

It was a fabulous day and celebrations carried on late into the night.

RIP Hans and Roy
Not sure where Clffy is ?
I still have many drinks with Louis .

Thanks to George for the post.

Thank you George and Dave, gave me goosebumps looking at that footage.

Mike Azzie still a very young trainer then and the crowds were lining up on the rail from the 200m, excellent stuff!! Not seeing that on the local front anymore which is very sad.

I remember Azzie chirping van Booma saying he better be wearing thermals because of the breeze that would be coming after Brainteaser swept past Divine Act. Great build up and showmanship. R200 000 was a lot of money in those days.

In my opinion neither quite fulfilled their promise and were good not great horses.

I think the maiden was the fastest Divine Act ever ran and he certainly won a good few races not sure Brainteaser did much more.
There was a horse Divine used to regularly beat but once at Newmarket he burst through the stalls and was just beaten after the reload. Divine was money on and just pipped 🥲

Can't remember the other horse 🤔

Striker won 7 races that day - including the P6 - but lost to the parrot mouth

The horse that you are thinking of is Colour Sensation trained by the other Zaki cant remember his name but think he was Doms cousin.

Martin, he trained Teddy Zaki's string and I think lost his paper for doping

That's the one Mr H.

I was very amused to be told that when Paul Peter was still at the Vaal Martin was one of his assistants, obviously under the lap, and survived a few stipes raids without them realising who he was.
