An epic 10 race card with a 11:10am start on Saturday

R4, Willow Express, whilst this is a Plated race and may not be well in under the race conditions, not sure whether Hoedspruit first run back since January can lug 62.0kgs around and win. This cannot be his main seasonal mission, whilst well in here, don't believe they will cut him in half to win. Willow Express is racing fit and should run well on the Greyville track.

Shaheen Shaw previews the race meeting taking place at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Saturday 28 May 2022.

The soft conditions complicate things.
Race 1The 4 at the top of the betting that have raced are all capable of winning, but unknown first timers. Slight preference for Canadian Summer over Ygritte, Apoestertjie and Get in the Q.
Race 2 Of the raced runners, Royal Victory is best but has a very tough draw to overcome. Ensuing and Political Party next best.
Race 3 Competitive. Sea Eagle looks good ew value at 14/1. Trump My Queen good form. Visitors Escape Artist and Willow Lane must be respected. Desert Rose flopped on poly last time but good first two and could pop up.
Race 4 Hoedspruit is the class horse but I am concerned that he is taking on some hard knockers that are racing fit so I would go quite wide in this leg. Golden Pheasant and Willow Express my slight preferences.
Race 5 Also quite open . All the P Peter runners must be included and perhaps Flying Bull the pick, but plenty others with chances.
Race 6. The two top 3yo fillies, Rain in Holland and Chansonette are missing, so the door is open for Sprinkles and Perfect Witness to get a Gr 1, and I like Sprinkles to win. Juliet Tango, Light of the Moon, Silver Darlingand Kailene look to fill the quartet. If Marigold Hotel sees out the trip she’s a runner.
Race 7 Pomp and Power is my first choice but no value in the price. If Safe Passage is fit he is the danger, and Red Saxon has shown that he can win at this level. If Waterberry Lane sees out the trip he is a runner. Super Excited looks held on prior form but seems to be improving at the right time so is a lurker.
Race 8 After the Rain ran way above his rating last time and if fit is a penalty kick. Otherwise very open.
Race 9& 10 very competitive handicaps

I have tipped Safe Passage but understand that it might just need the run and is not 100% for today.

Race 6 - SILVER DARLING / PERFECT WITNESS / SPRINKLES / KAILENE
Race 7 - POMP AND POWER / SAFE PASSAGE / ARAGOSTA

Mostly in agreement with PeterD - thoughts ....

R1: In the camp of Canadian Summer

R2: Agree Royal Victory the right one on form - Kannemeyer first-timer could be the danger

R3: Very competitive - Kennedy has chosen Trump My Queen, but Willow Lane will be no push-over; main dangers probably Escape Artist and Desert Rose (plenty of scope) - even roughies like Hot Strike and Conchita not totally out of it on form.

R4: Hoedspruit of course has to be considered, but I agree that the stable will be very happy with a running-on 2nd or 3rd; Golden Pheasant imo the biggest danger from Cat Daddy; of the Tarry runners I prefer Willow Express, but I think he has more to do

R5: Tough handicap; Kennedy is on Shangani, but that one has something to find at the weights imo, so I prefer the chances of Shango, who has run well at this track and seems to enjoy the KZN winter weather; Flying Bull has come into his own and can't be ignored with One Way Traffic

R6: Open Woolavington, where one of the fillies will get a Golden Ticket to compete in the July - I make it between Sprinkles and Perfect Witness, Silver Darling may prefer this trip bit others like Marigold Hotel and Kailene have stamina doubts imo - Light of the Moon for me has more to do, but can't be totally ignored

R7: Interesting - I think the July betting will look a lot different next week; difficult to compare the Gauteng and Cape form, so imo Pomp and Power is at a ridiculous price - the value definitely Red Saxon

R8: After the Rain ran well in the LQP, but not sure how ready he is over a sprint after a break, I think Love Bomb is a big danger from pole position

R9: Tough handicap; Master of Destiny very consistent and even from a wide draw should be right there; roughie imo could be News Stream, who has dropped in the ratings and looks well in at the weights - has a nice draw to boot

R10: Anyone's guess; Ideal Act in form and still looks well in, so should go close; 3 yr-old Passage of Power could be the dark horse - did run last in the KZN Guineas, but may be better than that - did finish in front of Party Time (won next time out) in the Byerly Turk

Todays runners are coming in fully fit and ready for their respective races.
Here are Justin’s comments on his runners today:

Race 1: Camika was green on debut and will need this second start too from a wide draw.

Race 4: Hoedspruit is having his one and only Hollywoodbets July prep and will come out firing. He will take some beating as weighted to win this one. Banker.

Race 5: Lonsdale Cup (Gr3)
One Way Traffic is back to his best and will be ridden from cover and settled. 5-1 is awesome value. Each way bet!
Salvator Mundi ran an excellent first race in KZN and will run a big race at the weights. Include in absolutely everything. He is not a 10-1 shot.

Race 6: Woolavington (Gr1)
Bye Bye Bombshell takes a huge jump in class after an impressive PE feature win. She stays all day and will be hidden away from the 11 draw. We hope she flies home.
Silver Darling ran an awesome race in the KZN Guineas as a prep. She is not value at 2.5-1 but we do feel she will run a big race as her preparation couldn’t have gone better. She will produce the run of her career.

Race 7: Daily News (Gr1)
Pomp And Power is at his very best and will be the horse to beat in this Gr1 event. Senso Unico is the value bet danger at 12-1.

Race 9: Royal Watch is better than his form suggests and we hoping she improves.

Race 10: Silver Falcon is doing better and we are expecting major improvement from the wide draw. *Macara* at 8-1 looks the value bet.
