Robert KHATHI banned for 4 months

INQUIRY – JOCKEY R KHATHI

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Durban on Tuesday, 7 November 2023, Jockey R Khathi was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.1. The particulars being, that whilst riding CAPE EAGLE, he failed to take all reasonable measures throughout the race to ensure that this gelding was given a full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible placing in Race 6 at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse on 15 October 2023.

Jockey Khathi pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charge.

The Inquiry Board, after considering the mitigating and aggravating factors and that it was found that Jockey Khathi had failed to ride CAPE EAGLE out with sufficient vigour and determination which in the opinion of the Stewards, had a bearing on the result of the race, ruled that he be suspended from riding in races for a period of 120 (one hundred and twenty days).

Jockey Khathi was given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.

It was a difficult ride. Head of the horse was going to one side. Listen to the full commentary at the end after the finish. He mentions tongue over the bit, Cape Eagle.

Fortunately I’m not a stripe. Would have disqualified the 4 horse………….

Look at how loose the reigns of the other two horses are compared to Cape Eagle towards the end.
Head of the horse was going to one side maybe because Khathi was tugging hard on the reigns.
Can't blame the stipes thinking he was pulling the horse back.

And look how far the Cape Eagles head goes backwards compared to the horse on the outside....surely that shows the jockey is pulling tight on the reigns.

This is from the internet. Plus I read the airway gets effected when the tongue gets over the bit.

Almost always when a horse wants to place its tongue over the bit it represents a resistance to the bit/reins due to tension and worry. Horses will exhibit this resistance in different ways such as leaning on the reins, gaping their mouth, foaming at the mouth, tossing their head, etc.

And that what Cape Eagle was doing. Ridiculous decision.

Suppose we will never know it was a difficult ride and not the action of the Jock

Naresh do you think the stipes don't know what you read on the internet?
