I was thinking the opposite Shayne, you can only play with the 3yo's we have.. How many times you thought the 3yo colts were special for them to disappoint and vice versa.. There is always hope this time of year, there’s always a story.. Forgive the pun!

One of the strongest fields for ages - 2 horses rated 127...Met and Cape Derby winner - SA Classic Winner and 4th place Gauteng Fillies Guineas Winner and Gauteng Colts Guineas winner -Makes last year's race look like a B Div...especially as most of those horses have hardly trained on - There is no good reason to contest this race if you can't win and want the July - Snaith has the stock to destroy their ratings - other trainers may only have one July 3yr old - History proves that going for this race with sub-par animals is career destroying -see Street Art River Romeo etc - If I owned a Gr 1 winning 3yr old that is a July horse there is no way I would go for this race and have my rating killed -

3yr old colts will carry level weights, all 60kgs.
Cant see how Snaith doesn't win it, not sure if Eight on Eighteen can be beaten by any of these over 2000 on weights. I guess only the widest draw of all and no luck in running to ruin a 1st place.
This is one of the strongest races of Daily News i can remember. And alone of the top 3 in my mind will win the July this year. No older horse seems to have trained on or trained well given all the interruptions.
no matter the result of this race the max 3yr weight of 57kgs will only carried once by the winner of this race into the July, if they attempt it next year they will carry 60kgs for sure.
Still think Sail the Seas if drawn 1-4 which will mean it will get first run on the favorite will be hard to pass. I watched the Derby replay, the horse did see out the 2000m, infact it came from behind the favorite and got up to it before being passed by in the last 50m.
Perfect scenario if you a 3yr old, Oriental Charm went from 53kgs to 60kgs in July, front running won't suit with this weight. See it Again, 3rd attempt, and will be running on, but looks held by 3yrd on Cape And Summer Cup runs.
Agree regulation will he running on, but from class 4 to grade 1 carrying level weights with grade 1 winners will be tough

Snaith has many entrants to ensure a decent gallop. In the Guineas the intended pace maker was scratched and Cosmic Speed set a gallop to suit his style of running, think that's the reason he was headed very late in the race. Native Ruler will do the intended job this time around.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

.......I cannot forget that it was rumored that in the gallops for the Met..... Regulation was the horse pacing with the Met winner causing a jockey jump on that day....Regulation failed to deliver.... a rare Fourie flop.....now we see it trying to be sneaked into a Gr1 off a lowly 93.....gotta have a plan for another 3yr old to add a further string to the Snaith July bow.....wink

Eight on Eighteen will be hard to beat imo - from there he MIGHT go the July route, where I think he has tougher task (as it is a Handicap - even though he will be capped at 57 kgs)

If he carries 57kg's and See It Again 60kgs, I don't think the 3kg difference is enough against the 5yr old....
