Kenilworth, Race 3. Is this Possible ?
15 years 6 months ago
Yesterday 29/11/2009 ,Kenilworth Race 3, the first three past the post ALL paid R 1.00 a place.
Just before the off there was a huge swing in the potential payouts, some horses shortened dramatically and some drifted heavily.
Honest question, is it possible for all three to pay R 1.00 ?

I have sent an email and hope for a reply, but here is an old post re:tote payouts.

This is one of my pet hates, and can find plenty more on this subject, but dont be conned!!
CO-MINGLING?
Note! This was an extract from an early Scotia in the morning posts with regards to the co-mingling French fiasco????????????????????????????????????
I also posted on the site with regards the 2 horse race, makes its so much easier to check what pressure the normal "punter" is up against, I posted PLEASE don't make them both "money-on", however blackpearl at 7/10 and 11/10 tried to come to the party, Interbet at racetime came to the party in-line with Betfair with 8/10 and 12/10 at 100%, but the early prices from the bookies at 6/10 and 9/10 shocking, but the shocker was the TOTE with 7/10 the winner and "NOT TOTE FAV", this must surely expose to the poor punter in the tote how much the "rip off" factor is. I will say this one more time as it totally infuriates me that the French co-mingling fiasco when Dettori won on the 6/1 shot and it paid 11/10 on the tote and "WAS NOT THE TOTE FAV", just wish more people could read these posts on the site, and after my inputs on Saturday, many people do read the site, but don't post.

Amazing, 81% of all place bets struck were winners. I attribute the ability of the aussies who co-mingle to pick winners to the fact that they are several hours ahead of us and so already know the result when they place their bets.
What do you think Andre ?

Just a crazy race then. The top three all returned R1.00, while any of the other 12 runners would have paid more than R5.00.

I think these co mingled pools are having bigger effects than we thought.
In the 8th at Fairview today I believe the starting price of Cave Art was around 7/2 or 4/1.....It paid R1.90 a win!!!!!!!!!!! That's 9/10 on the tote!!!!!!!!!
I guess if you look at the jockey/trainer combination as well as the good form you could see how Australians/Americans whoever would stick on the money.
Betting on SA horseracing has just gotten a LOT more interesting!!!

tommy hotspur:
wonder when we SAfricans commingle our bets into their racing pools, do the dividends drop like tenpins? Or, are we dumb?
When the race starts, the dividend indicator is till on and the horse shows R1.90 for a place; it closes when the horses are about half-way into the race.
Then, Ka-BOOOOOOOOOOOOM, the dividend drops to R0.50c!
Question is: why is the dividend bar still open when the race is already running? Is this the gap (for commingling) that the Australians/Americans/Aliens, etc are exploiting? Is there a software loophole? Whatever?
Over to you Andrewest!

Umlilo,
I think the reason for the BIG drops and BIG escalations is the fact that their currencies are SOOOO much stronger than ours. If they put collectively $5000 (AUS) on a horse for a place then our pools with only R40,000 in is going to feel it!
The fact that the pools change after the off is what Scotia has explained a hundred times before. There are pools which have to be added before they can declare. Whether we like it or not.
Like I said, there are HUGE problems with comingling, but we have no power to solve them. P has a lot of work ahead of them.

Thanks for the feedback Scotia- can't argue with the numbers. I would however be more interested in the sequence of events before the final figures.
There is smoke and I will leave it to the local firemen to investigate, in the meantime i will stick with my fix odds/win only style.

PL, well I find it insane, the fact that punters are putting money down on the outcome of an event to gain nothing and potentially lose money
