@ Hibs - you should know the same about me, Hibs. I will pm you.
@Yeldah - Yes, it is confirmed. I am waiting for John Stuart to return my call on the issue. They are all at NHRA AGM now, so he will probably call later or tomorrow.

I'm not sure this is the case Garrick.
Until PGE take into consideration that the 'average' punter has to type his bets into a betting sheet(unlike the syndicates to whom they are pandering) and create a platform which allows a punter to create a batch of bets that can be placed simultaneously(like the bookmakers have),the open bet is going to continue to cause major leakeage.
The vast majority of my bets are still open bets,it just makes things so much easier for me to get my bets on.
When are rebates going to be available to locals? That's a surefire way to make inroads into the open bet.
Rebates are common practise across most racing jurisdictions,so what's the problem here?
This is the wrong thread, but it really is something that needs addressing.

JAP may be the wrong thread but a very valid point.....I suggested in another thread....that instead of PGE taking all those many, many millions of unclaimed tickets into their earnings that they be re-distributed to tote customers in a form of loyalty bonus for their support... this could see many more punters come back to tote betting and curb the exodus to the open bet....

Muhti, as a punter , you would want vit your way. But, seeing as half of the money goes directly to stakes, the Owners want it to stay just as it is.

Re: Re: R3000 to watch TT

John Stuart returned my call on the decoder issue :-
1)The Rand has weakened and there is a definite swing towards Sports Betting which is hurting Horseracing turnover.
2)So, the moneys paid to the overseas partners who supply the International feed is now down by some 42%.
3)The International partners have been putting pressure for a few years now in terms of the Bookies receiving their product for next to nothing. Now, with the Rand weakening, they have had enough and PGL had to find a solution.
4)The truth is that Racing in SA costs some R720M to run annually and in spite of the Bookies having almost the same turnover as the tote, Bookies only contribute R114M of the R720M.
5)Overseas partners put their foot down, as they believe that Bookies in SA have had it "for next to nothing" for too long.
6)So, whilst the SA product has to be continued in the current manner, PGL have no control over Overseas feeds and the costs as determined over there.
7)In the meantime, PGL has obtained a Broadcasting license and will Broadcast the International feed on their own decoders, which is a lot more expensive for Bookies than at present.
8)Contrary to rumours, the new decoder costs about 80 US Dollars.
9)We will still have Tellytrack at home as per current, but will only see local Racing.
10)This is very good for local Owners etc, as more time for Interviews and shows such as Winning Ways etc.
I love it !

Thats great so if you don't want to watch overseas racing then you don't buy a new decoder?

great for people like me who dont bet or watch daily fare from overseas and enjoy the local feed only but i fear it will have a major effect on turnover which drives the industry
