I probably haven't been around racing long enough to comment but going to comment anyway. What defines this death of racing you all speak of that is happening? Are the pools diminishing? Are there less owners, horses, jockeys? I just don't understand where all the negativity comes from. I am not arguing the fact that Phum are ripping whoever off but they are a company doing what is best for shareholders. Isn't that what all companies do?
If you look at all sports, there has been a down turn in live attendance. Economics, the fact that supersport offers us live footage, are both contributing factors. Sharks can't full the stadium unless it's a semi or final. I font know when last I saw a pal match outside of the Soweto derby with more than 10,000 people.
Anyway, on topic I'm super glad that we will have more local racing and what ever they need to do it I'm happy

What Louie is saying is correct TT will only televise local racing. A seperate decoder will be needed for international racing. If the bookmaker makes use of the Int racing he will have to pay 3% of his turnover

I would like to say that I could put it in a nutshell but not that easy.....besides all the peripheral crap of race course closures country wide and operators not acting in the best interests of horse racing etc....basically one cannot keep taking a cut of the turnovers without stimulating and satisfying the people putting money into the pools.....Louis and others claim that bookies are raping the sport by taking out far more that they put in which is not far from the truth but I would not use as strong an illustration as mentioned.....if we had no bookies like Hong Kong Singapore France etc.... our pools would be enormous or much much bigger than what they are at the moment then the horse racing model would be totally viable and thrive.....now the ability with a bit of technology now enables book makers to offer the same bets as the tote at tote odds so now it is not necessary for a betting lounge or online betting site run by bookies to have tote terminals as that can now offer everything without any betting turnover going into the betting pools and they shrink or stagnate but never grow.....all those exotic bets at tote value go straight into the book makers pocket because there are always more losing bets that winning ones and some bookies have software that could warn them of a possible exposure and they can make a call to lay off a bet that could cost them an unusably large pay out. With more and more people using bookies and their online facilities and less people putting more into pools the operator cannot pay stakes to owners and subsidise horse racing facilities etc and they will eventually fold....:

I have copied this off another thread that think illustrates the dilemma I am trying to explain in my previous post....if punters migrate from tote betting to the bookies only a matter of time for the tilt and operator not getting enough from pools

Have you guys seen the recent ads in the Computaform where they are looking for people to work on a commission basis to get people to open tote accounts.....laughable.....at one time I would have jumped at the opportunity.....but the way you and I are treated as past and existing customers..... I would rather introduce them to the open bet and a good bookie that will treat them a lot better.....I don't think that the open bet is at all fair..... as the bookies do not plough that contribution back into racing....but the operator is even more off side in not being able to offer what you and any new guys require

They claim it is partly to stop the bookies using the international pictures
How hard would it be for the bookies to strike their own deal with the internationals and freeze phumelela out the market?
Ladbrokes showed American racing in the UK before the other bookies , pictures are streamed to their shops

Not saying this is the answer to the above
But I can watch Racing international and they show Sa,HK,Zim and Dubai, so maybe Dubai is seperate from the UK and other international stuff

Re: Re: R3000 to watch TT

?......can't see it happening here......the places I have frequented are piggy backing straight off of that what the operators offer and mostly races that are televised......very few punters having a go on horses they cannot watch.......the operators only have themselves to blame by not keeping the access to betting product in check......the genie was out of the bottle from the jump as every Tom hurry and duck has access to a DSTV decoder......putting it back now by trying to control racing feeds.....not so easy.....because with the technology available for streaming more bookies have the muscle to align themselves to overseas counter parts and mirror anything and nearly everything that the operator has or will have to offer.....also nothing stopping punting Joe with telebet facilities lending uncle Harry a decoder to put in his shop.....:S

I think anything which is a production of TellyTrack is classified as "local". So Kenya, Zim and Maur will be here to stay on 239.
