what I fail to understand is that TT talk about their "intellectual property"
but if the owners do not bring their horses to race what intellectual property do they own?
I would think that the owners also owns "intellectual property"
I am not a legal eagle but it would be interesting to hear their views on this
can you own intellectual rights on a product you do not own?
yes they have the outlets, TAB and equipment to broadcast and bet on but with out the owners who provide the product( horses to race) they have f!@#$%^ all
I wonder what would happen if we could have the owners and trainers to go on "strike:" for two weeks and never enter a horse in a race what would happen to their bottom line of P nd GC then?
but that would happen never happen, but I do think it is time for owners to stand up and be counted as everybody is fighting about "their rights" but I wonder in this fifght had anyone bothered to talk to the owners and their rights?

Operators have got the better deal with every single stake holder in racing. Now they perceive bookies have also got a place in the sun, they throw all their toys out of the cot. They are pathetic and will ruin racing even further. They are completely out of their depth when it comes to running a business Bookies are a vital part of racing. Any decent punt needs to go through them.

They send a representative to winning ways to tell us they have no idea what is going to happen!!
But let's look back a bit at the big picture.....we were sold all this overseas stuff as being for our benefit....mostly the chariot sh!t and then we were given co-mingling to give us better dividends!!!
What in fact this has led to is a lack of focus on the local product(as per management at "P" ) big problems with mainly reduced tote dividends and now a war with the bookmakers driven by the overseas partners.
Overseas racing has NOT been good for us at all (Us,being the you and me........undoubtedly good for shareholders)
Maybe it's time for the local product to be run on it's own and WELL managed by a new entity-I don't buy the fact that the local product is inherently unprofitable if cost containment was effective. I think we should push for a commission of enquiry into local racing-I think that we are being hoodwinked by the propaganda of the incompetent and inefficient.

Try and watch a replay Frodo..................unbelievable as it may sound ............it was a half hour of "we haven't got a clue whats going to happen yet."
It sounded like independent arbitration would be the answer to resolving any time soon!

Winning ways interveiw was disturbing. Even Laff looked like he was lost for words. GC director says their plans change everyday, basically admitting that this has not been thought through properly. His only concern was profit for TT. Heaven help us

the mauritian said they have got a reprieve for another month, end of feb for the viewers of tt to receive the content and feeds in its current format.as i understand it the format was meant to change on 3rd of feb,but this mauritian acted as a mediator and negotiated a further month for negotiations between the bookmakers of kzn(who agree in principle to pay for the feed) and tt(who needs to make a profit).
only local and zim racing on 239 and decoder for international feed at a minimal subscription for home users.he wasnt sure how much it would cost and they have a limited amount of decoders(abt 500 was mentioned).

Here is a scenario to consider if you belong to the vocal school which addresses bookmakers as 'parasites', 'leeches' and other unfair and unwarranted names. This may also go some way to explain the dynamics of cost - which many posters sadly seem to have little or no understanding of.
A potential solution could be :
Bookmakers revert to a 140% ( or higher ) betting model.
In recent times ( and with the exception of long term betting ) bookmakers have reduced their margins from an historical model of 140% down to an opening bid of 130% odd which usually tightens into 120% at the jump. ( Yes - I know this does not always happen but that is the general trend and you have the choice not to bet if you do not like the % ).
It should also be noted that many of their clients habitually get a 'stretch' off the advertised price ( eg 5/2 is laid off 2/1 ). So beware of criticizing the 'quoted' price as often actual business is only transacted at a point or two better. Interbet, for example, uses this reality in much of its marketing.
By introducing a 'fatter margin' this would make it easier to 'fund' a bigger payment to the operator - who could use it for important matters such as murky 'administrative costs' and sustained dividends to shareholders. Oh! And the odd bone in increased stakes - but certainly not to the extent of increased revenues.
Whichever way this falls you can rely on one thing : SOONER OR LATER THE PUNTER WILL PICK UP THE COST.

If William Hill can do it?
The United Kingdom's largest bookmaker, William Hill, will broadcast U.S. racing from tracks owned by The Stronach Group through a deal reached with U.K.-based broadcaster Turf TV.
Through the agreement, William Hill will offer live coverage of Stronach tracks that include Gulfstream Park, Laurel Park, Pimlico Race Course, Golden Gate Fields, and Santa Anita Park.
Turf TV, the brand name of Amalgamated Racing Limited—a company owned by Racecourse Media Services and Timeweave—owns the live broadcast rights for 34 of the UK's leading courses. Turf TV provides broadcasts and data to betting shops throughout the U.K. and Ireland, including 90% of England's group stakes.
Last year, Turf TV reached a profit-sharing agreement with Stronach Group to televise races from its tracks.
