SEAN VEALE - PROHIBITED PRACTICE - Oh Dear!
3 months 2 weeks ago - 3 months 2 weeks ago
The National Horseracing Authority of Southern Africa (NHA) confirms that it has concluded an investigation into a Jockey providing information to an Owner in relation to having a bet on Race 2 at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday, 15 February 2025, which would benefit both parties.
It was established that recorded communication was sent to a registered Owner, by Jockey Sean Veale and that there were at least two similar communications involving betting, that had taken place previously.
Mr Sean Veale and the Owner were charged and elected to sign Admission of Guilts for the contraventions of the Rules as set out below
21.2 No JOCKEY shall bet on a RACE whether directly or indirectly, either personally or through any other party, nor shall any PERSON or individual place a bet on behalf of any JOCKEY on a RACE. For the purpose of this Rule, “RACE” shall include any race held under the auspices of any FOREIGN RACING AUTHORITY.
71.4 Any PERSON who assists any other PERSON or individual to commit an offence or is a party to or incites or allows the commission of an offence, whether directly or indirectly and whether before or after its commission, shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable, on conviction, to the same penalties as are competent for a contravention of the CONSTITUTION or the RULE itself.
The specifics of the charges are that Mr Veale bet on a race indirectly, on three separate occasions, including most recently on Race 2 on 15 February 2025.
Mr Veale signed an Admission of Guilt for this offence and was fined the sum of R80 000, R50 000 of which is suspended for a period of two years on condition that he is not found guilty of a contravention of Rule 21.2 or any other Rule pertaining to betting or any corrupt, dishonest, or illegal practice during this period.
The Owner signed an Admission of Guilt for his involvement in the matter in terms of the provisions of Rule 71.4. He was fined the sum of R20 000, of which R10 000 is suspended for a period of two years on condition that he is not found guilty of contravening this Rule or any other Rule pertaining to any corrupt, dishonest or illegal actions during this period.
The matter illustrates the importance of information being made available to all stake holders, which includes the largest stakeholder group, the betting public and not only to a select few, who wish to prosper from inside information.
The NHA encourages all stake holders to advise if they receive any advances from licensed Riders involving betting on races. For this reason, and to illustrate that all information will be kept confidential, the name of the Owner involved has been retained for the internal records of the NHA.

So he steals the price of the owners (I presume this owner was not part of the ownership or if he was why would he need to pay for Veales input...he could ask the trainer) ...and he gets R30k...I know this bet he wanted around 20k....so how much did he make on the previous bets....and then we get jockeys being fined almost 100k for extra whip strokes...what a joke...he should have been banned for 2 years no suspension...gone....well Hollywood have said good bye to him I believe....what a clown show....

And to think he gets fined in less than 2 weeks for this but the lerena gates UFC fight is still lingering and the Peter saga is looking like giving Zuma a go for extentions....how can you take the NHA seriously when they behave like this?...our bets are won or lost in minutes but the people in the industry can carry on indefinitely with cases.. pity the Vice President of the USA ...Musk...has no interest in Racing or the whole lot would feel the power of the DOGE

Did he tell the owner to have a bet on the horse. The owner then snitched on him. Sounds more to this.

Hi All
I'm sure many here that posted on that day will recall the race.
I'm was swayed by the comment by ex jock turned on course presenter, who waxed lyerical about D
setting the traing track alight.(also some by other jock)
If you look at the owners involved, doubt they will be bothered by a odds deficit.
1st run, scintillating win and circled into my PDF to follow and future champ.
However ,I do recall a comment about a stable double on that day so unsure if successful.
Over the last few years he always highlighted the health of his two boys and a supportive spouse.
Some top Owners and Trainers complimented him on his workmanship.
Last Dec,Rascallions Syndicate Owner rep had to passify their members the jock won't lose in a photo
finish.
As a clansman mentioned above,HWS New stable jock recruit.
ADelpech said Syndicate hopeful at landing some feature races soon.
Why would the jockey compromise his career now?
Having attended KZN racecourses hundreds of times in past, can't recall this jock interacting with Joe public in the parade ring.
Odds of HWS flying him overseas to ride their horses???

Not sure of all the details but Sean has been a very silly man giving up a wonderful opportunity.
Just talking in general we all like to get info from trainers and jocks for a bit more confidence to punt and invariably back fires.
i understand if he was on a hot fav and was telling the owner to lay the horse on betfair as this is unacceptable
However was he very confident he was on a winner and bullish enough to tell the owner to have a big punt plus a few grand for himself ?
i would need all the facts but in most cases there are many "grey areas" with these hearings and investigations.......

@Dave Scott , I agree with you .
Lets not kid ourselves guys most jockeys have a "punter " on speed dial .
Sounds like this punter /owner shared the comms that he had from Veale with someone else , who has in turn "grassed " on them to the NHA ?
