IMO the reasons:
1) The smugness of Man U fans - in my days in the UK in which I watched most QPR home games an some away I found the Liverpool supporters to be the most knowledgeable and appreciative and clapped for good football on both sides.
2) Liverpool managers were footballing men through and through and the Liverpool teams played sublime football. The Man U manager is also obviously a good footballer but uses other means to win too such as attempting to influence officials (and usually succeeding judging by the number of refs that are terrified to give anything against Man U).
Look at it logically: if a Man U fan woke up and saw a picture of a Swansea player with his studs in the chest of a Norwich player, would he call it a "shocking" red card. It was only shocking because it happened to precious Man United.
News flash: FIFA Rule change due to pressure from Man U twitterthon: You are now allowed studs up head high if (1 you were watching the ball and 2) you forgot that there were 21 other players on the field.

Magi, my good man... an ex-police detective from the UK said almost exactly the same thing to me at the bpackers in Pretoria once (he was over for the last cricket tour). By the time he left he not only accepted my hatred but understood why. I'd just like to add, he also thought I was an extremely decent chap and couldn't stop paying us compliments (genuinely!)
And what is nebulous to one is life/death to another... however ridiculous it may be or seem. Man Utd are the "thing" I remember most from my young days, I remember clearly my excitement, my nerves, my joy, my desolation etc etc. Man Utd are probably also the "thing" I shared most closely and passionately with my Dad... tis important to me bud, very important.

Tipster... how disappointing. I won't bother making the effort next time
Have those beliefs if you want to bud, I'd personally say you were deluding yourself and wasting your time. I am not bias my friend, or at least I try not to be. I think that was a shocking decision on Tuesday. I also think, if you read the relevant thread, that a Madrid player should have been sent off in the first leg but I can understand why it never happened. So I don't harp on about it, I just let it go as part of the game. I am not even harping on about Nani's sending off, nor am I necessarily blaming that for our loss. There was imo, a much worse and more dangerous foul that night, on Evra again I believe, that no-one has mentioned, including us United fans. It is not us who go on and on about these things, it is others who, for some probably very sad reason(s), become more obsessed about Man U than their own teams. What for? Who cares?

The Liverpool fans weren't smug in their heyday.
I don't deny that Ferguson is a great manager, but his antics don't lend themselves to winning support from neutral fans.
For e.g. the other day when Man U were dominating the first half he approached the officals looking at his watch and complaining about the too little amount of added on time they had given. When up in the second half he made the opposite complaint. Why can he never leave the officials alone despite them usually being biased in Man U's favour?

Every manager if your side is winning calls for full time and if the side is losing wants added time:S

In fairness, as best I can remember, they didn't Greg and they looked just as surprised as (almost!!) everyone else when the red card was shown... speaks volumes to me.
