I don't think this thread is simply about the daily racing thread, though personally it is my main interest being a punter rather than a horse racing "professor". You have mentioned a few times since the switch there seems to be a lack of "involvement" from clanners Bob.

Yup Rob, go past the negatives, they are but opinions. Your contributions on the daily thread are always valued. I have said before, there are a few who contribute to those threads who should never be ignored. Some of us (or just me lol) are there for volume, to hopefully get things rolling or whatever and throw in an occasional cherry, others for quality.

I must admit I very rarely read the tipping threads, but occasionally moan or tip on them.

I agree, but the complaints about non-participation is obviously aimed these threads ........... some perception that people get rich from the contributions on the tipping thread and don't return the favour.........lol
Personally, because I read most threads out of interest,I reckon that readers would need some time before they got beneficial guidance therefrom as I think that sorting out whose contributions are consistently valuable, would take a good few weeks ,or even months.
I have a very short list of posters ,that if I have excluded one of their pointers,i will take a relook to see if I missed something.
Also, posters like Agra and Flaunt seem to get some genuine "graft" !

Thanks Rob,

is that not the idea of a forum? People of like come together to offer thought and try draw a conclusion as to the best way to profit? I know that when I take the trouble to post, it is cause I genuinely know something. This maybe that a horse is fancied or maybe not fancied. Its in the interests of punters and the survival of the game. I have owned and raced for many years and in fact my partners have won many group 1's and sold many horses for large amounts. we have involvement in all provinces and have learnt over time that you can study all you like (it does help)but its the little stuff that normally the average man in the street does not know, that makes the difference!I am a stockbroker and it works very much the same in all efficient markets!

One thing I would like to say, previously chose not to but I do think it is important. I speak only for myself obviously, though other regular posters on the daily thread may think the same. Rob, this idea that you have that some people who regularly post on that thread think they make people rich with their selections or whatever is, for the most part, if not in its entirety, complete fantasy imo. And I agree it would be hard to show a profit from those selections unless you are very very good at cherry picking, as I said earlier, based on what people post and the way they say it.
There is therefore absolutely no expectation of being "repaid" lol. that is not the point at all. The point is about discussion. It is about, as he has arrived, Flaunt, for example, being good enough to come on and say which of the Azzie runners was preferred by the stable etc. A huge help. We all use different methods as Flaunt says and unless we think ourselves some kind of superstar, it is about sharing those different "skills" so hopefully we can arrive at the right answer, which may or may not be our original selection. It is about, as you say, someone saying something which makes us go back and have another look. That is why I write a book sometimes, in the "hope" I mention something which makes people look again and hopefully leads them to a winner, which may of course have nothing to do with what my personal selection ultimately was in the race.
It is all about opinions. I would just like to see a lot more of them. That is all.

Engles,I totally agree regarding Loopy. As I've said before,if I was playing the exotics I would use him.
I do also think the bad form of United and Liverpool puts punters in bad moods and they clam up.

Kind regards,
Davetheflower, reporting from the shit hole that is Slough.Surprised I have got a internet connection from a Polski Sklep area.

Flaunt ,you will know I am a cynical bugger with ,and although getting old, have a memory for certain things ..............I check things out ....lol and your stuff is clearly accurate....................and that is not measured because everything wins ..........that ain't ever going to happen to anyone.
My disappointment is when reading posts,by the odd poster ,which completely contradicts something they forgot they posted weeks, months or even years ago......that just identifies "bullshitter" in my book, sadly, and you know that racing (and most gambling ) is full of bull!
I read once that a high % of punter/tipsters, believe that impressing their peers is even more important than profit.I found that very hard to believe until I could see the evidence on tipping threads.

My problem with the forum are the posts that have no meaning...I just did one on the durbanville thread to hopefully show what I mean in the next few minutes!
I didn't choose the #puntlife, the #puntlife chose me!

There we go...just done exactly what I was hoping.

I put up a bet with just that it wont miss. No reason what so ever. It hits so I blow my own trumpet and tell everyone what a good tipster I am. If it loses I just let the post drift off and be forgotten about.

Someone before me on here said quality over quantity... I am very much a firm believer of that. What might be an idea is that as Ziets said that only certain graded members get access to certain topics? I think OLBG used to run like that.

Interesting Richie...........I used to be an avid reader of OLBG and some of their rules had obviously come about due to historic issues, some of which were being repeated on ABC.........suggested a few but were rejected............the main one being that any "tip" without reason or foundation ,was deleted............that kept their quality up and the guessing down!

wow the pair of you, Rob and Ritchie like a pair of old grannies. Why does one have too explain why one likes the horse or not. Just the otherday i posted 6 winners in 6 consecutive races without any explanation as to why I liked those horses. Bottom line is either your follow or you don't. If i come out with a story why i think this and that horse will win it would make no difference on the uk thread because hardly anybody reads it or if they did then they don't contribute to it at all and if an individual likes blowing his own horn then let him as its him who looks like a tool. (i often congratulate myself for the sole reason that i know nobody reads 90% of my posts)

Hard to explain to a shepherd, so I'll leave it to Ritchie!

Guys this is a forum, u read or u post. The idea was to get members & not force people to post. I read when i have time, & post only were i am required too. The idea that the people who post horse racing tips & others use it to get rich is only in their heads. We read because we want too & we will post because we have something too post. To to all the reqular posters well done & keep it up the work.
