Very soft going and a moderate pace. Beau Kala faded late, Sunlit ran on from last to finish 4th. Lost a couple of lengths when pushed wide on the turn to avoid a tiring horse, and should have finished closer. She is one paced and will be better off a strong pace and will stay further.

One runner at Greyville on Monday. *Pascali runs in race 7. very open handicap. He ran on nicely last time from a wide draw which was his first time this surface. With a nice draw and the experience of the poly under the belt, I'm expecting good improvement, and I'll be disappointed if he doesn't run in the first 3.

Disappointing ride on Pascali- slow out the pens so wasted the good draw, and then went searching for a gap out wide instead of staying on the rail and taking the shortest route home. Beaten 2 lengths unplaced but in my opinion should have fought out the finish.

One runner at Vaal on Tuesday. Nothingelsematters in the 8th. He ran on nicely over a trip too short first run on the highveld, and should improve this trip. A tricky race as there are some hard knocking older horses that have slid down in the ratings and the two lightly raced Houdelakis 3yo recent winners that could be anything, but I’m hoping that he can score his overdue second win.

Nothingelsematters looked a winner after weaving through traffic but snared on the line by the narrowest of margins.

One runner at Vaal on Thursday. Canford Rose runs in race 1. Not much form to work with, but she had what looked like a soft introduction on debut beaten 5L. There have already been 4 good winners from that race, and with the natural improvement she should go close and has a strong jockey booking. Looks value ew at 6/1.

Very strange ride on Canford Rose- languished at the back of the field off what looked a moderate paced race, and only started to run at the 300m. Made up a number of lengths to run 5th, but the race was all over by then.

One runner at Fairview on Friday. Jean Paul runs in race 8. Large competitive field, and any result possible. He showed a return to form last time, and hopefully can again settle and not overrace. Well suited to the course and distance and hopefully can make his presence felt.

Pleasing win by Jean Paul and good luck to the person who had all the winners in the Hollywood lotto on the day.
A very wet early winter in CT and we can expect a few more rain disruptions to the racing in the coming weeks.
An interesting sale on Friday at Kenilworth but not easy viewing horses in this weather. A good innovation allowing pinhookers to roll their purchases onto the RTR sale and only pay thereafter.
Gearing up for the breeding season, and making final plans for matings.
Our sire is looking amazing despite his age, and he has added sire of sires to his resume with Kommetdieding carrying the torch.
Elusive Fort has a small crop of juveniles this year- only 2 have run so far, and good to see his son Hawkbill crack his maiden after 3 close up seconds.

One runner at Turffontein on Thursday. JP Twothousand runs in race 6. Looked like he was regaining some form at his penultimate before dropping his jockey at the start last time. On best form he has a definite chance, but can’t have much confidence until he shows some of his old consistency.

One runner at Greyville on Wednesday. *Pascali runs in race 6. He is fit and well and things did not go his way last time. I’m a little concerned about the 1400m, which may be a bit sharp for him, but he is 4 kg better off with the favourite Action Stations for 2L on their last run. If he gets a good beginning and a clear run he should be competitive.

Ok run by Pascali in 4th- as feared he found the 1400m a bit short.

One runner at Turffontein Thursday. Celtic Rumours runs in race 8. She is a smart filly, but returns from a break and her wins have come over further. She also gets a wide draw which doesn't help this course. She should be running on but I will be pleasantly surprised if she wins this.

One runner at Kenilworth on Thursday- the much delayed meeting after all the rain. *Lady Renee runs in race 5. She is competitive this class and i'm expecting another good run. Mike Stewart trains on the beach at Noordhoek and so his horses have had their usual preps, so he will have an advantage today. I think that our main danger is the stable companion, Look Forward.

Lady Renee fair run in 3rd. Celtic Rumours ran on nicely for 3rd and looks ready to win over further.

One runner at Fairview on Friday. *Countess of the Stars runs in race 3. Makes her debut and this was supposed to be down the straight on turf, but now the widest draw on the poly. She is a full sister to Quasimodo, so will need much further, but she has to start somewhere. Not expecting anything from her on debut.

Countess scratched due to the switch in tracks.

One runner at Kenilworth on Saturday. Call to Unite (bred in partnership with Drakenstein) makes his debut in race 2.
Out of the Gr1 winner Siren’s Call by Vercingetorix, he was a lovely scopey yearling when I last saw him. Will no doubt need a mile or more in time. The stable companion Remember My Name, with Fourie up and a good last run is at cramped odds, and the other Snaith runner Steadfast should also be competitive with a good first run under the belt. The heavy going is a concern, but keen to see him running on and hopefully into the money for a stable trifecta.
