Thanks Pirates, I tried last night as well, with about the same result!(tu) I have just spoken to the stipes and as we said it was the pin pulling out. Gavin also inspected the equiment and was satisfied it was just a racing accident and nothing else.He said it had happened to him as well. As the stipe said if you knew it was going to happen would you be that much of an idiot to send the horse to the front on a bend knowing you could fall off with the whole field to come over you.

if a horse goes down to the start green/nervous, a jock will drop his irons 1 or 2 holes so that he and the horse are comfortable. although a small difference to the untrained eye, it can make a huge difference during the race and only someone that has ever ridden a horse can relate.
as you can see from the pic, our leathers are generally small and light. some can last years while others have been known to break after only a few meetings. it is one of MANY safety aspects we have to be careful of.
i am just glad that K.Shea didnt fall into the inside concrete wall covered with barbed wire at the pull-ups cross over road...

so hypothetically if a jockey did tamper with the equipment as Craig explained how a malfunction could happen - does that mean then any jock could do it on any horse in any race and the public must accept it as a malfunction - BTW i am now talking hypothetically? would the stipes say all in good order - so basically then we as the public are screwed and must accept this hypothetical scenario no matter what ? is this correct? im just making a point - lets say a jock was dishonest and did do this what is in place to protect the public?
