If Kevin had fallen just after the start he would have had the entire field run over him and would have been seriously injured even having fallen at the pull up was enough to get him stood down,if he wanted to "stop" the fav then getting left or finding trouble would have been a far safer option there is no way that anyone can believe that he would risk serious injury by purposely messing with his equipment, the sad thing is that this whole scenario detracts from just how good the winner is,she thrashed winners in the race that had no problems in running hard held and after she runs in Dubai and shows her true potential this thread will become a joke thread, for a trainer of the caliber of MDK to earmark her for Dubai win or loose last night speaks volumes of her ability
Give everything but up!

Titch i accept all you are saying and lets forget about Kevin - my point is actually what is in place for the public to be protected against a malpractice - how would the stipes control this ?- so my point what is in place in any given race? am i making sense - forget about last night thats history - im just pointing out a loophole in general - because to read in a report as Rob put it all is in order - how must we be reasonably expected to accept this - doesnt make sense to me. Anyway its out of my control so im studying for the weekend

Craig, perhaps a good idea to point out to the stipes that equipment with the pin pulled/fallen out is not "in good order"
either that or someone was negligent.......has to be one.
I am referring only to the conclusion of the stipes report........they need to extend the perception that the integrity of the game has been protected...........contradictory statements don't do that.
( BTW...lets be clear........ I am not suggesting any skullduggery whatsoever....................let the stipes be clear too )

stipes should have report say 'malfunction of equipment'. Otherwise its misleading and only serves to strengthen the mistrust in the integrity of the sport. NHA, not good enough.

Rob that is what i was trying to say because we want to know that integrity for all is intact including Kevin - and the report like that does leave things open for the public to feel there is a problem - so Rob hopefully Craig will explain what we are saying to the stipes because some people on this thread dont seem to want to understand our point

have a look at the size of the pin and buckle compared to the size of my hand and fingers... and i have small hands.
now try adjusting the length with a glove on your hand, while a horse is jig-jogging and being led around in circles, still watching other horses so not to get kicked and listening for your name to be called before you get fined for not following the role call...
it is something that can only be done when sitting on a horse so that you can get the right feel and balance.
the pin can get stuck against the buckle or does not go into the leather properly but still holds enough for the time that we stand up to test it but as Craig say, the force that is exerted by horse and rider when jumping from the gates can have it come undone. it can also come undone if the horse jumps sideways into the gates on the way out, that HURTS like hell.
if a jock doesnt feel comfortable on top he will stand up in the saddle and shift weight accordingly or adjust irons, this can be seen regularly in the parade ring, on the way to start and behind start.
as a retired jock once told me, A COMFORTABLE RIDER = A COMFORTABLE HORSE

@Blue, i understand your frustration.
when in Seoul, Korea, any horse that was impeded in any way was scratched. the "fans" not punters were refunded their bets. this included all horses that obviously got scratched at start, got left badly at start, any fallen jockey or horse and any horse badly interfered with as well as the aggressor. maybe one of the reasons that their win pool on a maiden race was over US$5million

at least then if the stipes report (in print and on records forever after) says malfunction, then the punter KNOWS to disregard this race in the horse's form, and for which reason. So the horse wasn't lame, sick, unfit, whatever. It was just a malfunction of equipment. The NHA needs to make provision in their reporting systems for more definition. I witnessed a horse run many years back with a full bladder - bad run! And felt embarrassed as the public couldn't have known that the horse came down the straight running loaded and immediately after the finish had a 3 minute pee!! nowhere was this reported. So forever after the horse has a blip on it's form and thus does not accurately reflect its performance ability. I am sure there are many such cases but the point is - the communication down to the punter is not defined enough. We live in the information age, there should be no margin for speculation/doubt if you want your customer to trust your offering.

thanks Keniza
FYI, in early 2000s i had BOTH Super-Light irons break in a race at Greyville.
as i was coming around the 600m, the right iron snapped after i clipped irons with Randolph on my inside. i had to lean on him until the straight after telling him what had happened.
then as i got into the straight, my left iron went from the force of having all my weight on the one side.
was quite embarrassed as it was a fancied horse... and my new girlfriend had been on course for her 1st live meeting!!!
these were irons that i had got from Hong Kong and they were made with rivets around the edges that had failed due to wear and tear from rain, sweat, mud and dust. have never used the same type of irons since, even though they are the lightest on the market.
