Hibs - I like your suggestion earlier about 'trusted' status. Too much posts lately that attacks racing people (right or wrong) rather than contributes to a good discussion. It seems like every Dick, Tom and Harry runs here to complain when they feel hard done without knowing the facts.

Young Gun in reply to your 3 extracts.Lizzy G beat one of Mikes own horses last time out and Kevin did not seem to worry about beating Mike that time so why should he have worried this time. Mike would have a pretty good idea of how they rate against each other. Also the filly that beat LG 1st time out I think ran last in its next run. Kevin won on LG so nothing wrong with him riding it again. Mikes filly was possibly not going to run unless the field cut up and Anthony does ride for the owner(Igugu etc). lastly as far as I am aware Emotif shortened in the betting then drifted when many doubles and trebles were going onto LG after the Vaal meeting.

Not everyone is in the know and thus has to rely on perception, therefore perception is stronger than reality.
I think if punters at the tote were in the know and knew the facts e.g. Kevin Shea interviewed after the race explaining what he felt from a jockeys perspective and how scary the feeling of nearly falling in front of a full field of horses, the punters would understand instead of feel cheated. I for one am not talking from my pocket in this example, just putting across a viewpoint for discussion.Based on this thread there are aggrieved punters / people, (maybe with personal gripes) all I am asking for (along with many others) is a little pro-active response and clarity i.e. no contradicting stipes reports etc.

I think Kevin went straight home as pretty sore and shaken after the race but I hear what you saying.

Guys you are missing the point - it doesnt matter who was on the horse - the point is what safeguard is in place for the public with a ridiculous stipes report like the one we got? i dont care who was riding the horse - was every effort made to make sure tac was secure before the jump and if the answer is yes - then why did it come back the way it did - that is the question? we need an answer - otherwise any jock at any time can just say there was a malfunction - well i had a malfunction too i never got a fair run for my money if there is not a better explanation that the one we have been given re malfunction. Otherwise we may as well say do whatever you want its a malfunction - this is ridiculous and does not stand up with our aim of integrity in this sport

Craig with all due respect weather Kevin is sore or not has nothing to do with what we are talking about - i want to know what was done to confirm the tac was 100 percent before the race and if examined to be fine after what went wrong - just to say malfunction is ridiculous and not fair to the public

100% Craig, not arguing the fact at all, Mike de Kock is a great horseman and has plenty of horseflesh to judge his mounts and upcoming chances. I am sure they were on, it is just the market suggested something different, just putting a different spin on this already controversial thread re: perception of horse racing in general. I am not in the know along with a lot of other punters and a lot of punters look at the betting market for a hint of confidence before having a strike, at the off the drift suggested no confidence. As I said above, Kevin would not risk injury for a juvenile plate race when there is bigger fish to fry in the winter season.

BY001 I think you are missing the point. No jockey is going to intentionally do what happened to Kevin. Read Chippy's posts and understand the danger.

This has nothing to do with how much Kevin drinks or doesnt drink like some other indivisuals have attacked his personal character. What im saying is what are the stipes doing re incidents like this to safeguard the public. If jockey x rides a horse tomorrow and decides to take evasive action as he sees it must we just accept it if the tac was deemed 100 percent before the race - huh i think not ! so what are the stipes going to do if a jockey is dishonest hypothetically like this how will they safeguard the public ? where is the responsibility before the race. What adjustments were made if any to this horse behind the gates? can the stipes answer this?

Craig people have done way more dangerous things than this for money so i would never put it past anyone for alot of money please lets stay in the real world. We want a proper stipes report not the stupid joke that they have supplied.

Craig - you will not win this round lol! Racing needs to be transparent but other forms (where we can gamble on) does not need to be! If a rugby player drops the ball what could turn out to be the winning try a meter from the try line do we ask why he did that and does he need to have a press conference? If a soccer player misses a penalty that could be decider does he have to explain why he missed that dam penalty?
Racing is one of the best policed sports around yet gets critized the most! Unreal!
