As a small time breeder i want full access to the stallion pool at the price everyone pays,i will provide a fertile mare from a well breed family which was on one of the top sales with proven information that the mating matches or ticks all the boxes, and for paying the price as all should if my colt/filly is rated 9/10 i will be placed onto the correct sale for the benefit of the industry. Please louis play the game not the player.Your future is more at stake as I'm in late sixties and breed as a hobby not for commercial gain,we live to dream we might breed a good one like Miarianne has in her small way.Thats all i ask.

Gees W, isnt that what the open letter is doing ? Playing the man !
There will always be a market for well breed horses from large or small breeders.

......basically everyone wants more bang for their buck....sadly the TBA has not provided this and got very complacent over the years....then along came Tom and starting a fresh approach in hyping stats, relaying info about family connections, even hinting on mating patterns......this was a good start for a turn around.....what he did not know that the man he was sent to replace was giving him the rope that he eventually entangle himself with and as a result implode the TBA to go back to the bad old ways..... :S....then cometh the hour cometh the woman.....Mrs Susan Rowett a very pro active Chairperson to the TBA....a mover a shaker.....a great breeder....got very hands on.....tours to the KZN boys....promoting dialogue....but too much of a soft spot for Racing South Africa....even made a home for poor Peter....then bang....the conqueror saw the weak spot....and charged full tilt....not a place for nice guys and fair maidens.....will be surprised if the fair maiden can walk the talk.....or will she cross sides when her tenure as chairperson is up.....if she stays and stands against the CTS more will join her.....but if she bolts the TBA will be history....

....Peter Gibson is really a good talker, gr8 at big conferences giving speeches.....but he cannot deliver.....too much of a "nice" guy to get dirty....he is in for an anything but clean fight at the TBA......his failure at RSA was well noted by the big boys at P who unanimously pulled funding after getting nothing than elegant speeches and well versed excuses....a man of action he is not.....perhaps he will explain his new role at the TBA and how they plan to move forward....but not holding my breath for him to pull the proverbial rabbit from his hat.

Play the female even van niekerk did not have the respect to give you a phone call a mannerly reply.Play the man not the ball is your choice. To be fair i am not a member of the TBA and don't know this chairperson but in my mind go for an old fashioned secret ballot controlled by a reputable accounting institution. Then lets see who wins this spat and by how far.We might even get a scottish result,we offer you the scots what you want and when that wins the we reply"Maybe sometime in the next century" Please this not a game but plenty of jobs are stake in this delicate balance jobs/unemployed.Farmers to increase, maybe?

And with all due respect Muhti, you would be streets ahead of Gibson. Breeding would benefit and u would make things happen . Just my honest opinion, as always.

I think change is great and i agree with the sentiments of Dr T, would i have written an open letter? probably not.
Is MJ solely to blame? no. Is he adding to the industry? yes. Is the way this whole thing is going down good for racing? No
I would suggest that there be a balance but when in racing does that ever happen. The CTS will continue to be a success and people/breeders will support it more & more for its merits. To target a companies sales dates which is really not necessary if you have a "superior product" is seen by the average person as "bullying", even if this is fair in the business world, South Africans in general root for the underdog.
There are clearly many other issues surrounding this situation that not one of us has all the answers to however what we cannot profess to know now is how this change will affect the sale of horses in SA in the future.
Personally i believe the CTS Book 1 will become like the "green pages" of the TBA's past, did that work? I never bought a horse off those pages & i will not buy a horse (willingly) from the CTS Book 1. Too much that i do not trust personally, but that's just me. Good luck to the breeders that do not play ball now, or are not part of the "club", getting a horse onto the "premier" sale.
Does there need to be a change? Definitely
Do i think that this change will benefit the small buyer like myself? Definitely not
