Over the Air wrote: Tipster thinking that you know what is best for others based upon your personal opinion is arrogance pure and simple. I would love to have more Conditions Plates as they generally give the punter a better opportunity to identify bankers on the day. As for your defence of RSA is this defence of you friend Gibson or is this defence of an organisation that spent millions and have very little to show after a decade?

I recently wrote an article on the importance of taking measures to ensure plate races stand up and are not simply abandoned due to lack of runners as it is important that the best horses appear and their programs do not become victims of the simple need for turnover.

So Over The Air you were wrong in assuming that that was my own personal opinion, rather the debate was about turnover.

Lastly, Louis would perhaps be interested in this article I wrote quite a few years ago that was headlined Merit Rating is a handicap and he will notice that I brought up some of the same issues he did. However, rather than simply slinging off at the handicapper I wrote it in a constructive spirit as some of the problems with the merit rating system are as much an issue for the handicapper as they are for the connections. It is my opinion only that above average 3yos are not nearly as badly punished today as they were back then but I could be wrong.

Tipster, interesting that everything you wrote "a few years ago" still holds true today ,as absolutely nothing has changed.
You may have noticed therefore that your constructive spirit is as useful as a "hearty vote of thanks to the staff" when dealing with the establishment!
Do you not perhaps understand then, the frustrated tone that often eminates when dealing with those clowns!

The solutions might lie in the programming so am not sure the handicappers are to blame. The handicappers do at least appear to drop 3yo merit ratings quicker these days.

Agree with this as we have stated often................the problem is how to get horses to participate when theoretically "out at the weights"...............a problem that didn't exist when the RF system was in place
(It has never been the handicappers fault ..........they just apply the rules....... those who make the rules need a rethink.)
Just a point though.........If a MR is a ability rating ,why are they ever reduced .....who decided that horses abilities change from week to week?

I see no logical reason for Klawervlei to buy out Summerhill. Mickey screwed it up by picking a fight with the Arabs and has been left with at best, moderate stallions. He will never win another title with the lot he has there now. The breeding powerhouse is most definitely the W Cape. Why would Jooste and company want to buy a stud that is in another province and on the way down?

If he was to withdraw all his racing interest would SA racing be better or worse off?

Any views

My view is that he is good for racing. Think of the money he has invested in horses. If he withdrew his support today a lot of people would be in the streets. Another thing if it were not for him and his partners Cape Racing would be in trouble or maybe even stuck out. How can this be bad? I think the big problem here is jealousy.

....this one is particularly odd....

....apparently she had retired from breeding some years before she wrote this impassioned plea...
maybe this was an open warning of what was to befall other smaller breeders and buyers....

What's odd about it? At the time no one knew he was the con artist that he is. Of course he was good for racing. He paid, paid, paid. He got Kenilworth racing huge increases in stakes money at the Highvelds expense. He employed hundreds through his investments.

Little did we know it was with stolen money.
